I personally think that Big Ed's is over-priced for what you get. They charge for refills & you cant pay for your meal with a debit or credit card. Paper plates that are 2x too small...I think the owner or Big Ed's needs to wake up or he'll be closing his doors, they arent the only place in Oak Ridge to get pizza anymore.and I think Snappy Tomato and Papa Murphys is just as good!...this is my opinion what do you think

Ate there a half dozen times and not once did I think that it was worth it. Pizza Hut is far better and so much less greazy. Translate to less cholesteral, less fat, less calories. I will never eat there again.

big eds is just not as good as it used to be. where did that great taste go? went there last thursday, and it wasn't like the old days. big eds pizza always had a great taste, different from all the rest, but I don't think it's worth the money anymore. atmosphere is great though. and as far as the paper plates go, I think they are fine, but bigger ones would keep your food on the plate and off the table. still a great place to eat, but it's just not for me!

Used to go to Big Ed's on a regular basis, but been back in 4 years. When Big Ed died, place went to pot. Im not paying $50 to eat a large pizza and have a couple of pitchers of beer. Also, the service, never great, is worse than ever. Just think if the owner actually had to work to attract patrons.

If you ate there once and it was no good why go back 5 more times. I think you just wanted to post something. I think Big Ed's is good. It made it on national tv.

Big Ed's is a landmark -- people come from all over to eat here! They must be doing something right! Yes, I don't care for the plates, or the forks, but that's part of the charm. This is the way they started -- they cut corners to make a go of it & it worked! Congratulations! Just don't let it go downhill! It's a jewel!

I knew Ed very well. He used only certain ingredients and never allowed substitutions. When he passed and David took over he substituted for cheaper ingredients so he could drive more revenue to the bottom line. Good business move. Bad taste move. The place is a landmark but I don't see what all the hype is about. It needs a good, deep cleaning and prices need to be reduced. Honestly it's the last place I'd go for pizza. The value is just not there.

I grew up in OR and Big Ed's was the place to go after every football game. It was and still is a landmark but I agree that when Ed died, most of the charm and flavor of the place died with him. I still go from time to time just to see the old place but the pizza hasn't tasted the same in over a decade and it is way over priced. I think most people go there for the atmosphere, not the food.

I do not see Ed's being in business much longer. Plus they are about to raise praised again someone told me. No card machines either? How can you stay in business?

I think the place is unsanitary too. I saw the old woman serving drinks scoop the cups right in the ice bin instead of using the scoop right in front of her right after she got done eating.

I used to love Big Eds also, but the prices are so high I dont go there anymore. The last time I ate there was 2003 and it was still the best around.....from what Ive read here its not anymore. Its really sad. My Mom knew Ed and always told me what a good guy he was. Its too bad to see something that Oak Ridge is known for going downhill.

I don't see Big Ed's closing its doors anytime soon. I go every time I'm back in OR and I make sure to get there early, otherwise the line is out the door and down the sidewalk toward Jackson Square.

It would have to be horribly mismanaged not to remain profitable with that amount of business.

Plus, the men's room graffiti is the best. I've been out of high school 11 years, but it's still fun to read about who the sluts, losers, and fags are at ORHS. The wall above the urinal was also once home to this great quip: "Why are you looking here? The joke is in your hand."

I just don't see the appeal of Big Ed's. It's not bad, but I can think of 5 or 6 better (and much, much cheaper) places in Knoxville off the top of my head. It's probably the best place to eat in Oak Ridge, but anything above "slightly mediocre" will definitely draw attention in Oak Ridge. The place would probably last maybe two months before going out of business if it was located in downtown Knoxville or the old city.

Papa Johns is essentially cardboard covered in sugary tomato sauce concentrate. Pizza Hut is the same, but substitute butter for sugar. Big Ed's isn't as good as it used to be, but it's still miles beyond Pizza Hut and its ilk.
