Does anyone know about the tunnel system in Oak Ridge. I have heard rumor of this but never seen proof. Does anyone know if these tunnels really exist?

This thread needs to be deleted. That is top secret information. It's exactly the reason employees at the plants have to pass a top secret government security clearance.

I've been here for 61 years except for military time. The only tunnels I know about are the sewers and the train tunnel on the East end of town.

There is a black Jaguar that uses tunnels all the time to deliver stuff. Cops AND Majors media know all about it, but is this exposed? En Espaņol: No

And it is hot, too, and those who don't know or bash me can figure that out easily.

You can take the tunnel from the civic center and it will bring u out behind Blankenship. The tunnels this guy is speaking of are old and unused, and if u did get to one of the entrances, u couldn't get in

There's a water drainage tunnel at the far end of the soccer field at Blankenship. In that tunnel, you go down about 60 yards of 20 degree decline where you meet a small man-made waterfall. The tunnel is about 3 and a half feet in diameter, and crouching is necessary. Some rooms open up to standing space. You'll see graffiti from all the way back to the late fifties (all ORHS themed). There will be a couple streams to pass, and then you realize you're under Jackson Square. This was strange, since you can hear the goings-on. When we were there, it was after a play. We could hear people pouring out of the theater and chatting. Continue on a flatter tunnel passage, and you will encounter a couple standing spaces as you go under the Appalachian Underwriters building (skyscraper of Oak Ridge). You will have to climb through wood structural support beams and shimmy across a ladder to get through to the exit of the tunnel, at Eddie Hair Tire.

A couple thoughts:

-I did this before Eddie Hair Tire was remodeled. Check for a tunnel exit at the new space before attempting this.

-BRING FRIENDS AND FLASHLIGHTS. And water.

-Never do the tunnel after a rainstorm, because a stream will run through the bottom of the tunnel, making you cling to the sides. Try for a dry day.

-Most of the trip is downhill, so if you encounter a problem, you have an uphill return. For safety's sake, turn around and go up instead of continuing on, because you never know if there will be an obstruction.

-Be wary of weird stuff that could be down there.

There is a Tunnel that runs from Woodland all the way to the Civic Center too. Used to travel it when we were kids and not allowed to cross the street. The tunnel is in behind Food City in a creek bed.
