its so sad what happened to this little girl. i think in a mothers shoes cause i have a 6 month old. i couldnt imagine the pain that this family is feeling. without my lil one i would be so lost. my thoughts and prayers are with you. and for the girl that said that it was her own fault for wearing headphones. you really need god in your life. and need to think about the family not the facts. just because she was wearing headphones dont mean anything. this poor little life was taken. think what you would do if it was your daughter or son. im dissappointed. learn some manners.

look at this quote.

"Police say the Robertson Middle School 7th grader was riding her bike and somehow fell underneath the bus, where she was run over by the two rear wheels on the passenger side"

I dont think the child SOMEHOW fell under the bus while it was friggen moving. I vote the bus driver wasnt watching the road.

If the child had gone under the front wheels I would agree with you but under the back wheels there is no way any driver can watch in front and the sides at the same time. This is not the time for blame it's a time for morning the death of a child. God Bless her and her family. She's in God's hands now and in a better place.

I feel sure the bus driver was watching the road. I'm betting the little girl lost control of her bicycle. It was truly an accident.

I have known Ashley since she was born. She was a very sweet and smart girl. I used to go out every morning and catch the bus with her and her siblings when they lived on Robertsville near me last school year. I never realized how much she meant to me until she was gone. I miss her dearly and its so sad that this happen to such a sweet and innocent child. It just tears me up knowing this accident could of been prevented if it wasnt for that one mile rule. This has just made me realize how your life can dramatically change all in one minute. I just hope everyone out there continues to pray and give Donnie and Laurie all the support they have. May god bless everyone that has been effected and may Ashleys soul R.I.P You will be loved and missed dearly girl!!

to "Dontunderstand" if you look where she fell, there is a dip in the road. it appears she probably lost "footing" there and fell and the bus had just started moving but was in front of/beside her. If you look at the scene it is easy to see that she fell into the driver's blind spot. Hop on a bus sometime, sit in the driver's seat and see if you would be able to see your right rear wheel and if you would be able to see someone fall after you already started turning.

I never said you did. I just think there needs to be some reasonable reaction, not knee jerk reactions with unrealistic solutions.

Putting a one mile radious around all schools is simply absurd. There are sidewalks for many of the streets that are not fronted by the school. There are crossing signals on the major streets.

What is more of a problem is the red light runners. When a pedestrian has a walk signal they better be careful as that clod in the SUV that just ran the light is certainly not going to stop.

ORPD needs to start enforcing the current traffic rules instead of sitting on their butts. Speeding is not the major issue but it is a cash cow. Catching red light runners is more difficult, requires more effort. The ORPD does not want to put forth that effort. However, if the ORPD started enforcing red lights then word will spread that ORPD is enforcing the traffic laws.

But ORPD would only rather do the grandstanding work, not the mundane stuff for which they are also tasked.

I would highly doubt that. Those money grubbers would put the money in the general fund.

So what limit do you put on the transportation boundary? One house? One block? Half a mile? One mile is not unreasonable and is only a 15 minute walk.

Some students within the zone may choose to walk or bicycle as it may be faster than the bus.

Parents, taxpayers, in OR made their choice. There is not enough funding to have enough busses. They would rather have a new, lavish, second to none, high school. That money had to come from somewhere and that money is your taxes.

If you want to pay more in taxes I am sure the school will gladly fund busses for everyone, including those that live next door to the school. But the fact is that OR has consistently voted down tax increases to fund the school. The school has to make some tough decisions. No transportation for anyone within a mile was, and is, reasonable.

My friend. Ashley. An angel. It's been long and as soon as I know I might visit I find your dead. It pains me that while I've moved on to thirteen, you are and will remain....forever twelve. I love you always.
