Recently I drove by 18-21st and Harvey and seen a group of black teenagers throwing up gang signs at the car infront of me when I drove by. I've noticed a lot of police activity around those apartment blocks. I know one building is section 8 because a friend knows the people that live there. I have lived in Berwyn for over 10 years and it seems that area is turning for the worse. Can Berwyn stop Section 8 housing?

There was always all kinds of unreported crime in the neighborhood around the Cuyler Avenue Pool from I'd say like 2001 till now. I moved out in 2006. Got top dollar for my old place too!! Berwyn police used to go door to door asking questions and addressing community concerns. I always told them the same thing - start cracking skulls in the neighborhood and putting cases on these guys.

Wouldn't shock me if there was more Section 8 in River Forest by percent than Berwyn and Cicero. Ghetto trash likes the bling bling, including addresses :-)

My intent was to not get into some kind of negative Berwyn/Cicero vs River Forest blog exchange. My point was that good people can sometimes get stuck in bad or changing (for the worse)areas because they lack the financial resources or family network needed to get out.
I have no problem with RF - it's a great town. But not everybody can just pack up and leave when the going gets a little rough. Particularly when they might be upside down on their house or unable to sell it at all.

Section 8 is a class. And it's a class that allows their kids to hang out past curfew hours.
And the dumb ass liberals that think if you move low class in a nice area the low class will change is what is to blame with Berwyn's state today.

.....and I was really pissed off one day a couple of months ago when I was on the Emil Vacin Parkway between Harvey and Highland and a bunch of young and not so young Black thugs were walking shoulder to shoulder taking up the whole street , it's so shameful that anyone would have that attitude " So what are you Gonna Do " ..... I'd like to step down on my accelerator and run you all over.

If you did anything like that to them there would be six TV news trucks talking about the hate crime that was perpetrated on these poor urban youths. Then again, if they had committed an act of violence against you it wouldn't even make the Suburban Life news rag......

They be in their territory man. 20 years ago, the Berwyn PD would have beaten these "brothas" with night sticks until there was nothing left but a big red blood spot on the street. Of course, you can't do that anymore with the ACLU and all these shysters running around. Now you got to go upscale and get the yuppies in.

You still got 'em probably. But they can't do that anymore because all that would happen is a lot of civil rights lawsuits. The AG already busts their chops for pulling over too many Hispanics. Well, no s--t Sherlock!

My family tell me of the daily police sirens they hear all the time. Berwyn is not the quiet place it was.

If it's so bad why don't they move or better yet ... why don't you take them in .
