Had someone in that office been carrying a firearm, the causality rate would have been less and the suspect dead. The public is safer when the criminals don't know who's carrying.

Agree with Mark, personal responsibility for ones own protection.

90% of the time the cops wont save your butt, they are just there to clean up.

I have to agree with Mark, too. In California, only the bad guys have guns and we law-abiding citizens are at their wills because we have no means by which to defend ourselves.

Prayers to the victims and their loved ones. I do agree with Mark and Eric. People need to realize that they are the personally responsible for their own protection. Police officers while brave are often not able to get on scene quick enough and are by nature of their training, reactionary as opposed to proactive.

Obviously mental stability is not one of your strong traits. Either get back on your meds ASAP or get to a doctor real soon. Otherwise we may be reading about your dead A S S in the near future.

What is it with you liberals!

If it weren't for guns, you'd have this kind of thing happening every day.

Take away the guns from the police and watch what happens.

Guns in good people's hands make it a safer world.

How long do you suppose the United States would survive if we didn't have nukes?

So far, Ventura County Star hasn't reported this. And they probably won't, it takes away from the 'Safest City' claim. Been here 20 years and know about the censorship. Excellent work SVPD and I agree with Mark, Irena and Citizen 100%. The only deterrent against armed criminals is to be armed yourself - and let them know it!

In a way I agree with you. But not everyone knows how to use a gun. When a person walks in and starts shooting what would be your first reaction? Stand up and run? Hide? Pull out your weapon? Did anyone see the 20/20 "If I only had a gun"? Here is a clip....

http://tree3.com/Video/gunclip1.wmv

Then there is the one video I saw where I think it was a Walmart or some type of retail store where the ex-husband goes in and starts stabbing the ex-wife in front of customers. One customer pulls out a gun and shoots the ex-husband dead. The woman I believe survived.

So I guess with proper training I agree 100%.

This article is wrong. The gunman never went to Christian Auto Repair. A shot victim and a few other people ran over there but the gunman surrendered at the Dental Office. So please don't get the info wrong. I know this because my dad and brother own that shop.

I not only live 1.5 miles from the dentist' office, This is our families dentist. I cant help but notice people bashing the police in simi.
maybe not where you live, but in this town,(simi) the police are quick to respond. They took care of the situation within minuetes, and the bad guy is locked up. Thats why they call this "The safest town in america". Do you realize how many towns they are considering in this poll?
Great job SVPD AND VCFD, AS WELL AS THE AIR SUPPORT STAFF THAT WAS ON SCENE!!
