[ So you have no idea what ya talking about. they win in midget leauge becaue they run sweep wvery play and athey are faster than everyone.]
We don't run sweep every play. We actually run a double wing offense that is very diverse. We are faster than everyone because we work at it. We incorporate that into our training. We are good because we demand it, and we reward our team for working hard. Come to a game and watch before you start talking, and making statements, or rather excuses. The same boys on that high school team are kids I coached in midget league. They want to succeed. We just have to show them how. I learned a long time ago that it didn't matter what I knew about football. All that mattered was what I could get my players to understand.
I was an assistant at the high school for 1 season. It was all I could stomach. There were no consequences when rules were not followed. That has to come from the head coach.
If a kid does not follow the rules for me, he does not play. Period. End of story. No discussion. When that philosphy starts to being followed at any level, the "team" will get better.

I agree it's not the kids fault, the coaching is questionable at best, but to compare a high school coach to a c team coach is not fair. Not saying the coaching at the midget league is not good, but year in and year out the talent level at oak hill midget league is so far above everyone else in the nrvc that it really wouldn't matter who was blowing the wistle, they are in most games going to score when they want, and having mount hope come over and play with them doesn't hurt either, the high school doesn't have that option, And let's face it when these kids get to high school they are playing James Monroe and other AA powers, not Cowen and New Haven, so let's be fair.
We actually don't have as many kids from Mt. Hope as people think. I will say this, every year I think every other team in the NRVC has bigger players than Oak Hill. Some teams have more players on their team than us.
We work hard. Come to practice and see for yourself. We demand good grades. You have to keep a "B" average to play for me. It is not magic and we dont have "more" talent than everyone else. We just cultivate it better. The same thing can be done anywhere else.

Every school has good years and bad years, and every school has rebuilding years. Oak Hill is in on the those rebuilding stages, give it another 2-3 years and im sure they will be back to normal. Ive seen some of the boys play the past few season and there is talent, but it takes 11 people on the field to succedd and not just the few the team has. Greg Nunn has done an outstanding job with the middle school program and the high school should benfit greatly in years to come from it.

Lets clear up a few things about the C-team. Yeah we win every year, but do you really think its because our kids are just that much better than every other team every year, no we just work harder than any other team in oak hill. And no we do not run sweep after sweep every play. As a matter of fact we run the double wing that doesnt even have a sweep play in the offense. Saying we only play teams like cowen and new haven is misleading. We also play clay, braxton, webster, roane co, and summersville (which feeds into nicholas co). Not to mention we played Fayetteville to until they go tired of losing to us every year and left our league. But why cant OHHS beat these teams? Its all coaching. I heard a great coach once say "its not how much you know about football but how much you can get out of your players". You have to push discipline and work ethic. If you dont agree, maybe you dont remember when two of our coaches were coaching at the high school. The head coach didnt let them control much of the varsity but they ran the JV and crushed teams like james monroe where they ran the same plays as the varsity. After the game the head coach asked them how they stopped james monroe's offense. So dont disrespect some of the best football coaches around just because they choose to coach younger kids.

your are right. does have do do with some coaching. But talk to any coach. they will tell you have to have the talent.
little league coached do do a good job. no ones says you don't. But i will say you don't deal with all the distractions that the middle and high school deal with. And yes you always have better athletes than the competition.
As for former little league coaches winning JV game. It comes back to working in off season. Freshmen and Sophomres compete without working out hard. By 11 12 grade the get passed up because they do not work hard. they have been told over and over you are good enought to win so they don't work at it.
The group of kids coming up will be a very good group ok kids if and this is a big if they all stay together! grades, girls, drugs, cars, and jobs weed out many of the players.

enough of this! we should support all the sports at the highschool level! telling kids don't listen to your coach cause he is a idot doesn't help the situation at all! We may not be the best coached in the world, but all of us have a heart and desire to make these young me better men, better citizens, and over all better people.

I promise one thing at every practice, every game, and every film session i and the other coaches give it our very best!

Hears just a thought. How bout ya tell the kids, listen to ya coach he's trying his best! because many of the things that are beig taught because many of the parents or other outside people are telling the kids don't do that, i know more than that stupid coach. I can promise if people in this town would be more supportive and less critical, the sports would be much better.

I have no negative feeling towards any of the little league football of middle school caoches. I think both do a great job! but at the high school level we loose a lot of the kids you get to coach because many of the issues i stated before. All this negative talk needs to stop! support each other and i think oak hill sports would be a lot better!

sorry about all the spelling in last post was in a hurry!

The team was a mess when the new coaching staff got to oak hill. kids ran the team from what i heard in the past. Jones and Smith did the best they could with all that was going on. We had a lot of issues to address and still are trying to fix em. It will take time.

But be more supportive not so critical. We praise the kids a lot about coming from a winnig youth leauge. And last year middle school was very good! we tell those kid lets build on that.

I really do hope that we get things turned aroud! not for me as a coach but for the kids. many of them did work very hard in off season! most of them were under classmen. I really think we will be a lot better but we will see.

We will be fine. I just wish we had more fan support! Its hard to coach kids, when the kid is told by his parents not to listen!

keep up the good work with C team. I hope ya keep winning! i know you run the Double wing. Been to ya games. You run it very well. but you do run outisde a lot. I would to with the speed you always have. Hopefully you will get to see a little double wing from the high school this season.

You know, the fact you think the only reason Fayettevile left the NRVC is because Oak Hill beat them every year shows just how conceited you really are, and also how little you know about that cituation all together. nobody is trying to disrespect your heros. They do have the most talent every year, that part is not even debatable, but nobody said they didn't do a good job. So come down off your ego trip.

Coach Moneypenny knows the game of football as well as anyone I know, and he will get kids back in the weight room. Oak Hill has a good foundation to build upon with him there!

you cant teach a kid to have heart, you cant make a kid do something that they dont want to do.
and for the coaches YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID.

Its time for a change at oakhill and the older generation of coaches need to go and let new and younger ones come in. Just because a coach won a state title 20 years ago don't mean he can do it again. The basics are the same but new and better strategies and techniques have came along and went straight over the coaches heads.

I know alot of people didn't like Jim Martin but look at how many playoffs he took oakhill to in the few years he was there, sure he made some stupid decisions but he made alot of good decisions and that is the key that oakhills staff isn't comprehending sure you can make alot of mistakes but counter that with a good decision and i don't seem that they are capable of doing just that.

Well, last night started off well, but everything went down hill after the first half. I felt Oak Hill's offense looked better than last year's. I like the more traditional formation better than the spread. No team in Southern, WV has the talent to run a spread offense. The problem with Oak Hill is defense. It was sad. Every time Fayetteville ran a play it looked as if the Red Sea was parted for Hunter Hernandez. I do not think Fayetteville is that good of a team. Oak Hill just has no size. Next week, Mount Hope will do the same thing. Mount Hope is always big up front and runs the ball. Oak Hill will not stop them. Oak Hill may win 2 games this season. The only good news I have for Oak Hill fans is that there is always basketball season. I'm not giving up on football, but facts are facts: OHHS does not have the talent to win.

They need to bring steve angius to coach the high school. I would bet that any kid in this area that played midget league football in the past 10 or 15 yrs, would say that coach angius was the best coach they had. To get respect, as a coach you must first give respect. Steve does just that. To get 110% from the team they must first respect their coach. Trust in what he tells them and be willing to follow his choices. I agree that there are things that affect the team in other ways but that all starts at home. That is not the coaches job. So as parents we must first show our kids how to respect one another. Moneypenny is a good coach but when the parents and fans don't give him respect. How can you expect the kids to!!!! First and foremost though the kids are at the school for their education and sports is second. So let's as a community not forget that and make sure this kids get what they need to make it in the world. So we don't have to support them for another 50yrs. I bleed red and black!!! Go OHHS!!!
