I think K-Mart is marking up the prices on their merchandise and then putting up signs indicating huge discounts on it. There's merchandise throughout the store now that never used to have prices on each item. Before this big sale, a customer would find the prices on a label on the shelf. The prices on much of the merchandise in the housewares area are very high now. I don't recall ever seeing these high prices before the sale started.

Also, I noticed the signage over the expensive garden hoses indicates that the original price was 34.95. I went online to KMart.com and found that the current price for them is only $29.95.

What's going on here?

This has been going on for five hundred years by all stores. I know one store in Maryland that decided to have a 'Fire Sale,Everything must go'. The public fell for it and the store was still in business ten years later.

The prices were not marked up. Everyone's just use to the normal sale prices. The liquidation prices are not going to be the same as the ones online or in another store. When a liquidation company takes over a store they control the prices.

If Walmart is still cheaper, shop there..

As long as there's still merchandise the employees at that store still have a job. Had the prices dropped and everything sold out quickly, the store would have closed earlier than planned.

Went to KMart when the price of Dove body wash was 4.70. After a few weeks it was priced with a sticker for 7.99 WHAT!!! After the discount I'm paying MORE than the wal-Mart price! Who are they trying to fool!
