Here's the thing. The young people of today do not have an ounce of appreciation for anything that someone might go through the trouble of doing for them. If one was to open a arcade (which are almost non-existent today anyways) you then would have to deal with the immaturity- (fights, drugs and vandalism) that comes with young adults. The same goes for the skating rink. It becomes a place where parents do not want to take their kids for a family outing because of the hoodlums. Thus, all you have left IS the hoodlums; and who honestly wants to deal with that mess day in and day out.

Actually, he makes a great point. Just look no further than City Park as a prime example. It's hard to take children to play there anymore as the loud, foul mouthed teens "hoodlums" have taken it over. And what about the skate thing at Collins Park? The "hoodlums" it was built for didn't take care of it, they destroyed it and it was removed. It's easy to blame parents for this kind of thing, but it's not always their fault. Parents have great influence on a child, but when that child becomes a teenager, friends become a great influence, as well. And those friends are not always in a person's best interest, but try telling a headstrong teenager that.

well actually you are wrong. was not just a picnic table, was vadalism to buildings owned by the city, our young kids were spray painting vulgar words on the skate park and city buildings, they were harrassing young people trying to have fun, and when the police caught them, there hateful ass parents came to city hall and raised hell because they were picking on there kids. yes i know this for fact. the bad ones make it suck for the good ones. but the truth is lets punish the parnets instead. never happen never will. just wanted to correct you neighbor

That's pretty sad if you think the city of Oak Hill is trying to ruin young people's lives. There are things here for your children. Things they won't have access to any where else. It just sounds like there's nothing here that your children want. Your decision to move to Charleston is yours I wish you luck. They were living in 1 of the most beautiful places in the country. Fayette County is home to the second largest rafting areas in the country. If concrete is what your children prefer over scenery and nature And anything you can imagine having to do with outdoor recreation Then they will feel right at home in Charleston. Just be prepared for the increase in your cost of living. Charleston mainly offers shopping Or recreation that cost money. Maybe it was you that did not show them what all is here. What exactly did oak hill take from your children? Sounds more like what didn't you show your children?

Your statements are really stupid. West Virginia have so much to offer but you can't see it. You choose to only see the bad. Skating rink is not going to do anything. And exactly how do you get kids off of game systems by opening an arcade full of games? I don't understand why people live here if they hate it.

Young people don't appreciate things When they are just handed to them. An arcade is a terrible idea. Oak Hill Had an arcade several years ago. It did not last long. Young people appreciate things that they had a part in building. Plus it helps to build something that there is a lot of interest in. It also needs to be a safe and monitored environment.

She is much brighter than you are. That skatepark with a waste of money from the very beginning. Not enough people actually skated to utilize it. It was a short lived novelty That lost interest quickly. It was a slap together idea to get parents off at City Hall about giving kids something to do. Then people group bored with it and started to vandalize it. Plus it became a very popular spot for kids to go smoke weed drink beer have sex do whatever they wanted. It was just a place to go hangout. It offered nothing else. If the city truly cared about what the kids wanted they would have asked them. Not just a small select group. I don't know if you have any official affiliation with the city But your mentality speaks volumes of what this town has chosen to do if you are affiliated with it. Barbara Hickman actually cares And did the best that she thought she could. I am sure that it sucks for people to think that you are no better than the park grounds keeper And not mayor material.

I also heard that Gosien closed. How do you know that it's 5 or 600 people? Do you even know how many of those 5 or 600 people were getting pain pills? If someone told you then they broke the law. That's what information is supposed to be confidential. Everything you say you swear is the gospel. I do agree that if people do not have access to their medications then yes home owners are at risk for vandalism in breaking in. I am positive that many people will go to a different doctor. You can't say all of his patients were not Legitimate. People cannot stand you. You are extremely confrontational over thing's that do not matter or are not true. There are a few more people exactly like you that our regulars on this site. We would love to ask you to leave our town. Because as much as you talk about wanting it to be better if you are 1 of the main reasons that it sucks. No 1 wants you working in their office Or to be involved with NE project. Because when someone disagrees with you you make life unbearable. Will you please do is all a favor and go??

kids have arcades at home.. what they want is something else to do after all the ps3, texting and facebook. they want to hook up with their friends, but where. build these kids a waterpark or an indoor pool, open up a movie theater(i remember the king theatre when i was a pee wee), and a sonic drive in or somewhere to hang out like we used to do at dairy queen back in the day. and all this talk about the hoodlums, tell ur local law enforcement to patrol these areas instead of trying to nail you for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, then they could interact with the youth and develop a relationship instead of animosity toward them. wishful thinking, just trying to think positive. oak hill has to get with the times and stop living in the past. fayette co. makes all that money from the rafting industry, but fayetteville seems to be the only winner...later
