I've never written a check without having funds to cover it. If you do, you SHOULD pay an overdraft fee PLUS a fee for being stupid.

They Are Up To Their Ears In Consumer Lawsuits Where They Rip People Off And Charge Overdraft Fees When The Money Was There And It The Even Have A System Set Up That's Able To Collect Overdrafts From People Even If The Money Is There. I'm Telling You That You Not Want To Deal With This Bank..Stay Far Away!!!

All banks have overdraft fees.
forget it

BBT is not for customers and all they do is take your money rather you owe it or not. A few pointers for anyone that has had overdraft fees, you might of been ripped off. You could deposit a check in your account after 2 pm and the next morning BBT will post up to 3-4 debits before they credit your deposit making you overdraft and making them richer and You in the hole. This has happened alot with this bank and alot of customers are saying they were wrongly overdrafted and cannot get their money back because the bank will not give it back. BBT I heard is one of the worse ones for doing this and if you look it up on the internet that oh were you for real was talking bout you will see how much trouble this bank really is. They attack your account every 6 to 9 months overdrafting you outrageously kinda like a pattern. My friend kept having her account attacked and she got to looking at it closely and noticed even after they said she overdrafted her account was still positive at the end of the day with only overdraft fees charged when if BBT would of paid an item then it should be negitive the amount plus the overdraft charge but hers had just overdraft charges and nothing else. My advice is stay clear from this bank and if you do want to open an account with them make it a savings one at least then they can't steal your money.

You identified your problem, "deposit a check in your account after 2 pm"..

READ YOUR TERMS. This is not a ripoff.

IT is a term you agreed to.

Now, if you REALLY want to be ripped off, go to Chase. Chase will charge you fees for money in a child savings if it dips below $300.00. Like a $4 fee if the balance ever gets to $299.99.

And a $12 fee if you have $40,000 in your checking that you didn't touch for 2 months.

Yes, once you let Chase have your money, you will be chasing them to keep it. Oh, BTW, didn't Chase rip the tax payers off for about 50 billion this past year in 'bailout' money as they claimed they couldn't successfully operate their bank.

BULLSHIT!! all you folks need to dump Chase. The sooner the better

Are you telling us that you're looking for a bank that will exempt you from incurring overdraft charges when you write worthless checks? Why would you think that such a bank exists? Are you someone special? Have you considered only writing checks when you have sufficient money to cover it in your checking account?

On September 15, 2009, Branch Banking & Trust Company ("BB&T") customers filed a nationwide class action lawsuit against BB&T for the alleged unfair and illegal assessment and collection of excessive overdraft fees.

BB&T's Alleged Fraud
The complaint charges that BB&T does not record charges and purchases on ATM or debit cards in the order they actually occurred. Instead, BB&T reorders the charges and purchases so that the largest charge or purchase is the first one paid by the bank. This manipulative practice is intentionally designed, the complaints allege, to maximize overdraft fee revenue.

In many instances, the overdraft fees cost customers hundreds of dollars in a matter of days, or even hours, when they may be overdrawn by only a few dollars. A series of small transactions over a weekend can result in hundreds of dollars in bank charges.

Last year alone. BBT brought in around 24 billion dollars in overdraft fee charges and its said this year they hope to bring in around 34 billion!!

Stay away from this bank or they will have all your money. They hold your deposits until other debits go through then put your deposit through so they can take some of it. If you don't believe me then anyone that's ever had overdraft fees with them then go look at your statements and you'll find a pattern in their ways of use. That Bank is Greedy, a Rip off, and They steal your money.

Chase Bank is a Rip Off to. My mom and dad took out a mortage with them and later got divorced. Well my mom is disable and can't pay and my dad is no where to be seen so I got my mother a lawyer and when he looked at all her stuff, he said it was illegal what they were doing because they gave her a loan, charged her triple of what the loan was for interest so now the lawyer stopped them from foreclosing on my moms house and its all under suit. He's hoping he can get the mortage down to nothing or completely gone for what she's already paid them on it. But yes BBT and Chase both are rip offs and I wouldn't go to either one of them.

I'm not a customer of BB&T but I've been doing a Google search to find their policy on how long they hold deposited checks before crediting a customer's account. I assume I'll eventually find it online.

While I was searching, I found an interesting BB&T release. Below is an excerpted portion:

BEGIN >>

BB&T announces changes to overdraft policy

Sep 28, 2009

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/-- Continuing its commitment to put client satisfaction first, BB&T today announced changes to its debit card and ATM overdraft policy. Effective first quarter 2010, BB&T will eliminate overdraft fees for debit card and ATM transactions when clients overdraw their accounts by less than $5, and will charge no more than four overdraft fees per day.

BB&T also will begin to alert clients at BB&T ATMs when they are making a withdrawal that would overdraw their account.

Banks and lending institutions to AVOID:

#1 CHASE
#2 CAPITAL Charge
#3 SEARS Charge
#4 PENNY's Charge
#6 Bank of America
#7 BB&T

All of them are ripoffs and all the banks listed charge a non-customer a FEE to cash a check written from one of their bank customers! THAT is a shitty deal.

No I am not saying that I am looking for a Bank that doesn't charge Overdraft Fees. I'm saying I'm looking for a Bank that doesn't cheat you out of overdraft fees and your money like so many other people have been cheated out of and was thinking about BBT but people keep telling me not to do it because they charge you fees when fees are not do.

I did what you said and couldn't believe it. They have ripped alot of people off that are not happy and lost alot of customers due to outrageous overdrafts. But it was interesting stories from all of them and just by reading all that stuff. I WILL NOT GO WITH BBT as it's obvious who they are for (THEMSELVES)

Because if it wasn't I find this really hard to believe.

Here's my suggestion as an alternative to BB&T:

> > > CREDIT UNIONS < < <

Both Pioneer Federal Credit Union in Oak Hill and Alloy Federal Credit Union in Fayetteville will accept new customers who are simply residents of Fayette County. There is no other requirement for membership. Your money on account with a credit union stays locally in your community and is then available as loans and mortgages to your neighbors which helps build our communities.

It's hard to believe that Pioneer actually invites every member to attend an annual dinner meeting in Charleston. Would BB&T invite you to their annual meeting and buy you dinner?

K Crist, I'm trying to figure out how BB&T can charge you overdraft fees. Would you tell me please if the transactions which I've re-stated below were definitely done in this sequence and all on the same day?

Also which debits were check card transactions and which were actual checks you wrote?

BEGINNING BALANCE.......... 153.18
DEBIT #1.... 29.58 > BALANCE... 123.60
DEBIT #2.... 22.57 > BALANCE... 101.03
DEPOSIT.... 350.00 > BALANCE... 451.03
