well we are suppose to listed and follow our sheriffs but look what they do. one of our fayette county deputy has stolen funds from the fire department.. and i would say he stole funds from the trident drug bust cash etc. oak hill station 12 is the do no wrong perfect fire department they are alway treated much better than us other small fire departments in the county. i dont like to fight mutual aid with them they think they know it all and are the best. station 12 get buy with things that fayette county 911 jumps onto other departments for like non emergency traffic etc.. if we talk non emergency they tell us emergency traffic only if station 12 talks non emergency they can tie up traffic on the radios and nothing is said.. way to go station 12 i hope your scam dont knock the fire levy if my department had 300000 dollars we could have a nice station like you, trucks, like you and not to mention cash for calls. all other vfds in fayette dont get paid u do how fair is that to us other vol fire fighters..

fayette firefighter is a little confused on his facts about station 12 first off i never hear station 12 with non emergency traffic, yes you hear them alot but then you have to realize they are running calls, they dont cary radios like other departments carry and tie up radio traffic marking in route from there house. by the way there are several departments in fayette county that get paid so get your facts right buddy. now if you dont like running mutual aid calls with them then dont, stop it never come to our town again, we dont need you, and if you dont need OHFD, THEN DONT CALL THEM, GIVE THEM TIME WITH THEIR FAMILIES INSTEAD OF PROTECTING ALL OTHER DEPATMENTS.As far as the money goes yes OHFD gets more funds than most but i think they cover a rather large area of the county, and i think they run more calls than anyone in the county, so do the math buddy, how many calls do you run 30, i think OHFD ran over 500 last year hmmmm 500-30=470 what a difference, and how many men do you have on each truck, 1 maybe 2 and what do state guidelines say about establishing command on a fire scene, or do you operate under guidelines, probably not. So before you go off the deep end again get your facts correct.

I'm sure I will get accused of running my mouth to much tonight replying to all of these posts. But what can I say, I'm bored. Anyways, since some people on here are from the OH fire dept. I have a question? Now don't get me wrong, I am so glad you guys are here to do what you do. And I understand the urgency of your calls. However, I live on Virginia St. not far from your department; and even with an emergency, could the speed not be slowed down just on that one little stretch of road. It's right by the park and this new rail trail, with kids running everywhere. And the police and fire depts. are constantly going at least 60 mph or more through here. I worry, not just for the safety of my own children, but others as well. A little off the subject I know. But even in an emergency call, shouldn't there be some type of restrictions on speed in such a high traffic residential area?

Wow! With the way a couple of people on here have attempted to explain their viewpoints, I feel ashamed to be apart of the Fayette County Fire Service. Do yourself a favor and quit writing if you’re not able to communicate on at least a six grade level. Quit blaming the Oak Hill Fire Department for everything, and focus on the real picture. Now if Feltner took the money then he is wrong and will have to face the consequences of his actions. Instead of commenting on the issue at hand, some would rather venture off in a jealous rant about Oak Hill Fire Department. Before any of you ask, I am not part of Oak Hill Fire Department but rather a Smithers Fire Department (Valley District). And to the lady who posted about excessive speeding while responding to calls, what if it was your child they were speeding to rescue. The jealous rants posted by some of these firefighters show their lack of respect and sense of brother ship they have for fellow county fire departments.

I HAVE A SCANNER AND I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT OAK HILL STATION 12 GETS LOTS OF CALLS AND MOST OF THERE CALLS ARE BULL SHIT CALLS. LIKE ALARMS, GAS LEAKS ETC. BUT I DIDNT KNOW THAT THEY GET PAID WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE VOL FIREFIGHTERS. I KNOW LOTS OF FIREMEN IN FAYETTE WHO GET NOTHING FOR CALLS I DONT THINK THIS IS FAIR TO THE OTHERS WHO PUT THERE OWN LIVES AT RISK AND GET NOTHING FOR IT.. AND 300000 THATS A LOT OF CASH FOR ONE FIRE DEPARTMENT. WHEN THERE IS DEPARTMENTS OUT THERE WHO ARE IN NEED OF CASH GET ONLY STATE INSURANCE AND COUNTY LEVY MONEY.... WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM THAT THEY CAN PAY OAK HILL 10 TO 20 PER CALL. I KNOW THAT THE CIY CANT BE THAT GOOD OFF LOOSING TONS OF B AND O TAXES TO BUSINESS WHO ARE MOVING TO FAYETTEVILLE... SOME ONE LET ME KNOW AND WE WILL ALL KNOW.. THANKS

ok lets try this again. i am not a member of OHFD NOW, so i can talk about what i know and only that. i cant talk about the investigation because i know no more than you people know. the memebers ive talked to cant discuss it because they have been instructed not to, there is still an ongoing investigation. this department along with citizens of fayette county and the city of oak hill are VICTIMS. but lets move on. the last post knows this department responds to a large amount of calls,, but believe me there are no such things as bullshit calls. gas leaks lead to explosions (ghent,wv came in as a gas leak, nothing more nothing less, now was that a bullshit call, i dont think so) alarm calls are a nuisance at times yes, but bull shit calls i dont think so. i think when i left we ran over 100 confirmed structure fires, now this does not include electrical fires, drier malfunctions that burn the dryer, ect if OHFD is on the road there is a good reason. ok lets move on when they respond they recieve $12.00 per call(and this was raised from 10 not long ago, by the city of oak hill, not the fire department.) this policy has been public knowledge for as long as i can remember and when i got on in the 60's it was $4.00 a call and we gave 2 calls back, and im not sure but i think they are giving back 3 or 4 now. this money is used by the membership to use the way they want to, and look into it and you will see they give alot to school groups and others. the budget for the fire department from the city is $225,000 acording to the city manager in a news article. not bad for 40 members and all the equipment they buy not bad at all. when i was a member i think im not sure the county levy provided $135,000 not sure now dont know, but not much more than that, you can find out if you want from the county.so $360,000 a year to cover the municipality of oak hill and the area they cover outside of oak hill. not bad figure out how much per resident of that coverage area pretty cheap. if the levy fails and this ends ask your insurance agent how much your insurance will be if they insure you. make that call i did mine would almost double. i dont want that. now about the station its 11 years old, paid for by the citizens of oak hill with a 1% utility tax, not one cent from the county. so i hope this helps you make your mind feel at ease, remember the membership of the fire department and citizens are the VICTIMS YES ONE OF THERE MEMBERS IS BEING INVESTIGATED, and the members have cooperated to the fullest to bring whoever is responsible to justice. lets hope the inverstigation is accurate and someone pays. now lets mention this and then im done, nationwide more and more volunteer fire units are being paid per call if someone can pay. it takes tax dollars and i dont like tax increases my self but i have to look at from all angles, the state of west va is trying to help volunteer units keep trained members, our numbers are dwindling every day, guidelines keep changing to be trained and its hard to find good volunteers, so if you have a solution call a delgate or senator help them out. i admire volunteers that dont get paid and believe me i would have done it for no pay, we all would, but ohfd is one of the fortunate departments, and have never tried to hide that. i hope i have shedded some light on this terrible situation that has occured.

FYI. It is not about who you know, In exceed the speed limit, volunteer firefighters must obtain an emergency vehicle permit from the state fire marshal's office, once they get that they are required to have at least one red light and a siren. The law states that once you have me this criteria you can then and only then drive above the speed limit. The law only specifies that you must drive with "DUE REGARD". There is no numerical law as to how high above the speed limit you can drive.

I don't know what all of the griping is about, I see absolutely nothing wrong with paying volunteer firefighters 12$ per call.

Irregaurdless of the lights and sirens, if an emergency vehicle causes an accident, they, (the driver), faces the same penalties as any civilian driver.

If it was my child I would absolutely want them there as quickly as possible. However, this particular stretch of road has a very large amount of children crossing the road to the park, to and from school, and to and from the football and baseball fields. What if they hit one of those children. I think areas like that should have some type of a speed limit even for emergency vehicles. Even if it was my child, I would not want another one injured in the process. But don't get me wrong, like I said, I am so glad they are here to do what they do.

I agree with you 100 percent, believe it or not us firefighter do take in consideration the road we are on and the amount of traffic pedestrian and vehicular when we run code 3 to a call. The majority of the fire fighters probably do slow down to around 35 or so when the park is busy and hopping with kids, but when it is 2am and Virginia St is dead they may go 55 or 60. Once again depending on the firefighter. Remember they are human beings and they all make different judgment calls they have to live with.

Why dont you grow up and actually discuss the "topix" at hand in this forum. You have chosen to make an a** of yourself and rant about subjects that do not even pertain to the subject at hand. Which in case you forgot is the investigation pending between OHFD,the city, and a selected individual.
Instead you have chosen to take out all of your pent up anger and jealousy about OHFD and try to get people to give you pity just because you have been approached by the 911 center about too much non emergency traffic on county radio. Which in case you dont know could probably be directed to a private channel or better yet a cell phone. I also agree with one of the earlier post that the reason station 12 receives more money is that they cover a larger area of the county than some of the other departments.
Take home lesson here "fayette firefighter", grow up and realize there are more important things at stake right now other than radio traffic, whose station and trucks are nicer, and the fact that you dont like to fight mutual aid with them, if you dont like it I suggest you don't ask for it.

I am a member of a fire department in the northern part of WV and I would like to say, and remember that this is my opinion and Im not trying to stir anything, just set my opinion out here. From what I've read, the Fayette County fire service seems to have trouble with inter department cooperation. Every company has a**holes, I know, but it's them that makes the entire company look bad. As for those that are complaining about the fire levy and OHFD getting more money, remember it is a larger company than the others (as far as I'm aware. I grew up in Fayette County) and has a larger number of apparatus and members. A number of OHFD's truck are approching or have passed the 10 year mark. But all of you need to remember this-every company in Fayette County has it lucky. You guys and gals have a fire levy that is very substantial. Where I'm at it's miniscule and we rely in fundraisers, usually bingo, for funds for new apparatus and equipment. We are every bit bigger than OHFD, with 10+ apparatus. We do not have the income to replace them and some are over 25 years old and still on the front line. But the point I'm trying to make is that everyone in he Fayette County fire service is here for the same reason, to save lives, property and to prevent the risk of losses in those areas. OHFD may do things differently than Fayetteville VFD or Ansted VFD (just using those two as examples), but you all get the job done.
