I'm preforming a bit of study of the local history of the area. I was wanting to know if anyone knew of the sites of the Summerlee mine or the Lochgelly mine. I know of the general vicinity, but I was hoping that anyone might be able to point me in the area of a old tipple, a portal or something of that nature. Also, anyone with old pictures of the area who would either like to share them or sell them let me know. I am definately interested.

Thanks bob. I already have Window to the Past. I've devoured that one long ago. The Bloodletting book looks interesting, I'll have to try to find that one in the library.

I'm hoping to maybe find a colleague who has the same passion I have for history that I can work with and share information with. This summer, I plan to do a lot of hiking and exploring of a lot of these old mine sites around Fayette Co. A lot of film and picture documentation. I'm aspiring to be the next Shirley Donnelly.

Hope on that first link you had scrolled down and even gone to page 2.

Stuff like "Windows to Past IV - Southern WVa mine disasters"

"New River Gorge Images" J.S. Legg and Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.

Maybe could find another person interested in that kind of stuff at places in Fayetteville (Rock Climbing School, Mountain Bike people, put up a flyer at Cathedral Cafe - project for Boy Scouts ...)
Good Luck !
