They have a list on here of the 79 sears and kmart stores that are suppose to be closing. Maybe you people should check it out, because the Oak Hill kmart isnt listed.

megatrongn, I am the manager there, and you have to work tomorrow. You better be getting to sleep before I write you up.
Now back to topic, yes we are shutting down. It's a sad sight, I know. I mean what will oak hill do without our rude service and dirty floors and shelves, but...
I guess there's always walmart!
I am assuming that you are either an ex-employee of kmart, or that you work at walmart. I honestly dont believe that you would have been there long enough to become a manager if you hated kmart so much, or that you would degrade a place where you work considering that would also make you look bad. Kmart is not shutting down, and it looks like if you people were really concerned then you would go to the store and ask the actual employees and/or managers.

The store is always a mess. A lot of stuff is never priced. Even if it is busy, only 1 checkout is open. I like Kmart better than wal mart but when prices are not marked and the stores a mess and it takes forever to checkout what do you expect. I see employees just walking around doing nothing when they could have been pricing and getting the store to look good. The Oak Hill store is a mess.

We have a lease on the building until 2016 therefore, we couldn't shut down even if we wanted to. I work there & believe that if it was shutting down I would know before you people. So stop gossiping about a subject that you have no knowledge of whatsoever. K-mart's not going anywhere.
Apparently they told WOAY long before your they told your manager, or your manager told you. WOAY reported it way back in October.

And it is NOT a good sign when a company shutters a store with a lease still good for 4 more years. This stinks, you guys had a much nicer store than the one in Beckley too.
Just the facts please

Yes, it is true that this K-Mart has a lease on their building through 2016. It's also true that the rent was severely reduced (I've heard to only 50%) and the store could still not produce enough profit dollars to pay even the reduced rent. K-Mart's upper management determined that it would be economically prudent to pay out the lease on an empty building than it would be to continue paying for labor, utilities, inventory taxes, etc at an under-performing store.

So you have a lease on the building until 2016 and can't shut down? How come it's only 2012 and it's closing its doors? Hahahahaha. You obviously had no knowledge on the subject, whatsoever. K-Mart is going nowhere, you were right about that.:D

Forgot to add, leases mean nothing. They can be torn up easily.

Do you have some kind of mental disorder that affects your ability to read and comprehend what I just explained to you? Again, the store is closing prior to the expiration date of the lease. K-Mart will no longer occupy the building but will continue to pay out the lease until the lease term expires.

I am not employed by the K-Mart Corporation so hence, I do not have a lease on the building.

Also, physically tearing up one's copy of an lease agreement has no effect on the legal aspects of the agreement.

I was not saying they were bound to the lease. Just saying it shows desperation within the company to axe a store prematurely to it's leasing agreement, whereas they had been shuttering under-performing stores as their leases run out. In other words, the premature decision doesn't look good for Kmart's future as a whole.

Olan Mills closed out about a month ago. The Olan Mills studios in the other Kmarts are closing too.

Kmart went to crap years ago. Items would be marked for sale and when you checked out they would charge a higher price. Happened numerous times. Jewelry was covered in dust. Would only have one checkout open even if it was busy.

So, when Kmart is finally closed is everyone going to fuss about Walmart? Because it's just as bad there.

Atleast Walmart has lanes open. Kmart always only had 1 lane. I've seen lines wrapping around all the way to the card section and still one open lane. The managers were rude. Some of the employees were rude but that's probably managments fault. If managers are rude to customers, they're probably not nice to the employees either. They sucked and were an embarrassment to the kmart franchise.

Anyone know if they will ever put a new store in that building? Such a shame to see an empty building there
