$150?? sounds like a simple change error to me but who knows, If the county would take credit cards and checks it would be a lot easier on the tax paying public. hmm what other profession only receive cash...crooks, dope dealers, gun dealers, and our sheriff.

They don't take credit cards because every time a person uses one they would lose a percentage of the fees. Not to mention people using cards to pay and declare bankruptcy and end up paying nothing. Only way to off set the lost money would be to raise the fees. There are some businesses that do not accept credit cards because of these reasons. Very few of them, but they exist. They did an audit when they found the money missing so it wouldn't be an error. Had to have been a reason for them to do the audit also.
The fee is minimum and debit is free, also you can no longer declare bankruptcy on credit card. Telecheck buy's the check from the county for 1% so if it bounces the county has already received there money instantly from telecheck.

Fayette County certainly DOES accept checks. I pay my property taxes and purchase my license plate tags with a check drawn on my personal bank account every year. Why would you say that Fayette County does not accept checks?

I believe a county ordinance prohibits sexy dark haired gals from working in the tax office. Somebody needs to notify the sheriff about this serious violation.

<quoted text>The fee can run to 5 percent on American Express, may be a minimum fee but when you are talking the money they bring in that is a whole lot of money. You can declare bankruptcy still on credit cards. In fact you can just not pay them and there isn't much anybody can do unless they are a secured credit card. Most are not. Like I said, if they accept cards and have to pay those fess they will have to raise the fees.Simple business math.
So you don't accept American Express, lots of places DON'T! When you declare bankruptcy it does not go against each vendor you paid with the card, it goes against the credit card COMPANY and has nothing to do with higher rates the company charges businesses. Take debit, it's free, but they won't do it. It's like this county is stuck in the dark ages! Most of what needs to be done AT the county offices could be done online if they were working like the rest of the country, in this century, not 100 years ago!
