that stretch of 19 has been a speed trap ever since i got my license back in the 80's. everybody with a brain knows to slow down when you come through mt. hope, that's why it's mostly out-of-towners getting popped. but the same is true in most small towns anywhere in the country that have a high traffic road running through their town. been to summersville or myrtle beach lately?...my best advice, stop crying and don't speed through known speed traps!

This topic confirms my initial assumptions about this police force and in part feeling as a victim and feeling that Route 19 is nothing more than a cash grab preying mainly on out-of-towners who are just trying to get back home and happen to have found themselves traveling through this place unsuspectingly.
Was I exceeding the speed limit, yes. But what kind of ethics are involved here when the 'police officer' is sitting at the base of a very steep hill? Before you even realize you may be exceeding the speed limit and correct your speed you are being pulled over. Not to mention there were a multitude of cars that had to have been speeding but were not stopped. After all, I was not passing anyone while rolling down the hill. But I can't help but think that my foreign plates probably stood out.
And yes, foreigners are not going to waste their time to fight such tickets as much as they might want to primarily due to logistical reasons.
I will concur with another poster, in hindsight I will just avoid this route altogether and use the interstate in the future or possibly just avoid the state or the US entirely. I will also concur with another poster in that this does not do much to promote tourism in the US. Having not been to the US on vacation in many years and deciding to drive down with my now family and kids, I was surprised at the lack of tourists/drivers from my region. Experiences like this certainly help to explain IMO. Then again, I suspect this "police department" cares little for those just passing through onto to better places in the US.

Oh my my my my!!
Did someone really scatter nails where they park?
Magnets don't pick up aluminum.
That would be one hell of an evil thing to do, for sure! TISK TISK
