I dont know, but I went in there and the prices of there furniture is ridiculous...$250 for an old used kitchen table set, I could go right down the road to big lots and buy it brand new for what they were asking. I wont be going back.

Well, when I donate to Good Will I expect it to be distributed to the needy. Do you mean this is a for-profit place?

That's just not right.

Where is the good Samaritan center? Who runs the Good Will? I have always been under the impression that it was a charitable organization.

The mission statement of Goodwill Industries is: "To assist persons with disabilities or those who are otherwise vocationally disadvantaged to achieve full participation and integration into society."

The reason some of their furniture is so high is because it is a company buyout, similiar to what Big Lot's does. They buy factory closeouts and sell them. Not all of their furniture is donated.

They fund lots of programs for disabled persons and employ a lot of people with disabilities which includes learning disabilities and physical disabilities. They also recycle a lot of unusable items that are donated.

Just ask a manager there, they are well informed to answer all these questions.

Goodwill uses 90 cents of ever dollar you spend at their stores to put people to work. Give individuals a hand-up not a handout. Their career centers are for everyone, poor, near poor, and people who are working and just want to update their resume or computer skills. They offer their programs for free. Some have culinary arts programs, etc. Also, if you feel the prices are too high - call them, the individual stores have little control over prices but the local office, can help. They also have programs where they give vouchers to other non-profits to distribute as they see fit to needy individuals.

Habitat for humanity is lots cheaper. Also try the last chance store at the Raleigh County landfill.

Good Samaritan is a great place. Most clothing, with the exception of things with red and blue tags...is a quarter each. If it has a white tag, it is a quarter.

Their hours are limited, though. They are only open Tuesdays, 9-2, Thursdays 9-2, and Saturdays 9-12.

I heard bad things about the Good Samaritan place. Like the voluteers go through all the goods and keep what they want first. That's not right at all. If I would donate, I would donate to the Salvation Army or Good Will.

So where does the money go that the Good Samaritan store brings in? Does Pastor Sam just pocket it?

Come on now, Pastor Sam is a very kind and decent man. I doubt very seriously he would ever "pocket" anything. Shame on you Seriously!
