They usually announce at a City Town hall meeting how much volunteer groups made at the Oak Fest, just wondering what happen to this yearís report. Rumor has it that, very little money was made. Not surprising when you look at the crowd!!! Oak Fest is not what it used to be!!!!!

Well, I can tell you that we were told that we (volunteers) were getting a whopping 3.00 per hour! I will never do this again unless we are desperate. Much rather pick up some extra hours at work. I think it was a bad idea to run it for so many days. Then, you have to have that many more volunteers, hours, etc. Honestly, I think they already have way too many people working for volunteer hours, just standing around. It is definitely not worth it to me. That being said, I would be ok with my kids helping out and earning money for their activities, since they don't have jobs, but it's definitely not for me.

This payout is low because of a couple things - Weather killed the Fest last year - it was either over 100 degrees or raining, both crowd killers. The other thing that was not good in my opinion was the circus. They never more than half filled the big top and that cost a lot of money!

The last couple years, we got very nice payouts in the neighborhood of $20 per hour and every once in a while we will have a bad year. Hopefully, this year's fest will be back to "normal"!!

This used to be a nice family event which has turned into a drinking fest. Kids up there looking for trouble too. We used to go there more than 1 night every year but after the last 2, we said no more. Trashy people, no talent bands, crappy carnival rides and just too darned expensive. Too bad it turned into this. It was a good idea for a long time but maybe it had its run. Plenty of other ways to raise money.

I don't think you are going to see decent payouts when running it for so many days and using an excessive amount of volunteers. Sounds like the circus was also a bad idea.

I have worked the Fest the last several years and I did not notice any more workers this year than any other.

As for trashy's comments, I'd say most of the people I dealt with were decent, most of the bands are pretty good (some very good!) and I agree on the rides and the cost of everything related to the carnival being too high for an average family!

Circus way to expensive, horrible carnival last year, same food vendors over and over again, too many punks trying to cause trouble, and unfortunately it is now attracting a wrong type of people. Donít get me wrong, I understand that carnivals bring out some very interesting people, but the last couple years Oak Fest has become a place for gangs. I think Oak Fest has run its course, it is definitely not what it used to be. Very sad!!!!!!

Oak Fest needs to take a few years off until it can assure residents of better security for families and children, regardless of the time of day they are there. There needs to be a better screening process to keep bangers and riff raff out of there if police deem them a threat. Garbage in, garbage out.

The way to fix the kids looking for trouble coming in might be to charge an admission fee.

Who audits this event? Sure does seem like a very low payout even with a bad Circus decision. Is it still paid out as all the bills are paid first, then the volunteers or does some other organization get some of this money? I have worked the past two years fo my grand-children at the High School, it seemed to generate a good deal of money for their groups! Seems like the whole concept should be looked at to see if there is a better way of doing it! The beer flowed, the ticket sales were brisk, but the return was not that great, seems funny, like there must be other problems! The food vendors have been the same, maybe they could shake that up a bit this coming year!

This is only my second year to work the fest and because the first year I was hustling trying to sell raffle tickets, I did not notice how many volunteers were around. This year, I was stationed at one of the security spots and could see alot of volunteers standing around, also, some folks definitely put more effort into selling raffle tickets, trinkets, etc. Perhaps it isn't any more than usual and it has worked better in the past, as far as the payouts. Just my humble observations.

I noticed that every year I have worked the fest ofmom! There are a few folks really hustling selling the raffles and things and others just kind of wandering about aimlessly putting their time in.

I have worked the beer garden every year I have been there and last year was the slowest in terms of sales I had ever seen. Even when the beer tent was packed we were never "overwhelmed" by customers (and we were staffed the same as other years!)

It was just an off year! Hopefully, this year will be better!

Rent a cyclone fence to surround the fest grounds, charge an admission which can be offset by paid parking, or so many free tickets with admission, and that way, once someone gets out of line, they could actually be kicked out. Irish Fest never has a problem due to high entrance fee, and a 10' fence. When you're out, you're out. Oakfest is porous.

Exactly. That's what I was saying. I believe Chicago Ridge does this too. Went there a few years back and it was very nice. The entrance fee makes it too expensive for the riff raff to come every night and cause problems.
