i heard they were upper grade teachers? was it the previous principal or the new principal's call? out of curiosity, does anyone know the requirements for teaching in a private school? i would think that you have to be certified to teach in any school.

It was "Prozac's" doing. He is the one that got rid of the assistant principal position too. From what I heard, certification was not a requirement at first, but he wanted all teachers certified. You would think after all this time they would be grandfathered in. I also heard there are other teacher's in other parochial schools that are not certified. We'll see how all this change effects our school and our children. Hopefully we get some stability.

The non-certified, but very qualified teachers that were mentioned before did not receive contracts for the next school year. They did know what they were doing. In fact, our children did very well when they went to high school. It's a shame that they were let go, when there are teachers that don't care one bit about our children's learning. Don't fix something unless it's broken.
Certification is a requirement, rules are rules. Did you kids do well in Spanish in high school?

My kids are too young, so they did not have Spanish yet, but they did have music. I do understand rules are rules, but where were these rules when they were first hired? Why did the other principals allow them to teach and him also for his past three years? All of a sudden he is gone and so are they. It's like he tried to stick them with it, and won. It's just an opinion and everyone is entitled to one, but I am so glad he is gone. Believe me, we pay too much money to send our kids to a school where the principal never acknowledges anyone. His power and ego went to his head. HE GONE!!!

Funny because he was the one that got rid of the bingo program to that brought alot of money into our school and saved us money on r tuition. It is like he wanted r school to fall after he was gone.

Let's not forget Fr. (money) Meany's role in all this.... he lets his Croonies run the school and forces his decisions on the school without getting all the facts. IT WAS OBVIOUS BINGO BROUGHT IN MONEY...so why did HE issue an order to close it down. Once the regular bingo players are gone your not getting them back...so bingo is history and the school looses out. Makes me think there is a bigger plan by the Archdieces and Fr. Meany is involved with it. It's no secret they want to start combining schools

I personally know Dj from bingo and he worked his butt off to raise us money. Prosen and meany both wanted the program over. There was no reason to get rid of it at all, it made a lot of money. All I can say is thank you to Dj for the many years he did run it and the others. St Damian looks like a closing school to sad and very scary.

Not a fan of the old administration. These teachers worked hard for little money. Shame on you Prosen. Glad to see you go.

I am not happy at all to hear that the music teacher is gone. She was wonderful and did so much for the school and their programs. Try finding another teacher that would give up her Sat. with her family for a few months to attend non paid fashion show rehearsals! She was so creative and worked with the children for all of their programs. Serious mistake on whoever's part this was! I surely hope that this is no indication of the new administration! If Prosen was leaving, why did he have to fire them? Can the new principal hire them back? Prosen was officially finished with Damian as of July 1, out of his contract, which is when the new principal took over. Did this really happen under Prosen and why are we hearing about it just now? Oh I will be letting them know my feelings on this matter!

Yes, this happened under his administration. No one knew about it. He filled their positions before he left. It is pretty pathetic that he was able to do this. Sometimes it is not the certificate that matters, it is the dedication and joy the teacher brings. That was not enough for Prosen. He let a lot of things that made St. Damian what is was, go by the wayside. Maybe Father Meany or the Archdiocese should know how we feel. Or maybe Meany was a part of it!

This certification requirement was stated to the teachers many years ago. You may have liked them as teachers, but they were derelict in maintaining the requirements to teach at the school. As a parent I would think you would want certified teachers.

There are many parents who would disagree with some of the statements that the teachers that were let go were good teachers. Nice people, yes, good teachers, that's debatable.

Don't get me wrong, Prosen was a horrible choice for principal and it's great to see him go. We sure do hope for the comeback of Miss Wesolowski.

This was not Prosen's doing it was Meany's doing. Prosen who I was not a fan of was following Meany's orders.

I bet Meany has an air conditioned room - those kids at the beginning of the year and end of year are in rooms that have been recorded as having temperatures of 85+ degress on day.

How do you know it was Meany's doing? I am very involved in the school and did you know the school board did not know that these two teachers were being let go. Everything was hush hush. What does that "meany" for us? That we the parents, have no say in anything.
As for the extreme hot temperatures in the classrooms, how are these teachers suppose to teach and our children suppose to learn??? What is the solution for that? Maybe we should present that to the new administration.

As much as I don't like Fr. Meany, it was not his idea to fire the two teachers. This was all Prosen's doing. It was just another in a long line of farewell presents he left Damian. There was no reason to fire the two teachers, they have been teaching there without their certificate anyway, so why change? Why? Because he did not want to make it easy for the next principal, that's why. Since the teachers were familiar with the school, and yes, with the principal, her transition would be easier. But now, with two new teachers, not only do they need to learn the school, the principal will need to take extra time to monitor them. Why not let the new principal work for a year and see what works and doesn't work? Nope, he made the decision based on screwing us on his way out. He also thought it would be a wonderful idea to turn the handling of the tuition over to an outside service, now instead of calling someone at the school that we know and telling them we may be late with tuition, we will be getting calls from a collection agency and paying late fees. Oh, I know, that's business, but it used to be nice when there was a personal touch behind that school. And of course we need money to run, but did you know Incarnation has their preist handle their tuition? And, there are parents that still owe money from last year, but they are working with them, and making sure the family is OK first, then worrying about the money. Prosen has made these changes so his resume will say that he made sure the school only had certified teachers, he started a preschool and his tuition record is current. He did not care about the school, just padding his resume. Glad he's happy!! Off he goes to his fancy new school, enjoy little Gingerwood boy, it won't be long before they figure you out too!! And as far as Bingo is concerned, yes, money was missing, has been for years. Just look at the finacial reports, you can see the how the dollar amount has decreased over the past few years. Hmmm, over the same amount of time these people have been running the program, hard to deny facts! I guess their "stipend" or huge tuition discount wasn't enough for them. I wonder if they'll stay at Damian now. Let's hope things start changing for the better now that Prosen & Bingo are gone.

I realize the parents have not been officially told anything yet, if we will at all, about what happened with these teachers, but I tend to believe this was Prosen's doings, for the reasons stated above. He was a nice enough guy and the kids seemed to like him, however, I felt like he talked down to some parents. He definetly was looking for a power struggle and loved to tell parents he was in charge. I do respect that he did ask our opinions, whether he held them in high regards or not, but I have been at meetings where he did seem a little nicer and give us some input. I am also not happy with the tuition situation. I will still be bringing my payment into the school. I was questioning a letter from smart tuition, speaking to someone else in the office, not him, and he kept butting in. He stressed that the school is not equipped to take the tuition, it is too much work. Well, buddy, what do you care AND if I am paying that much money a month, they sure as hell can take my check and credit my account. I believe he did want to screw with the parents and teachers. Hopefully the new principal will be better. I have heard from a friend of his and former colleague that he is setting his sights on and has been told he will be superintendant of this new school within 3 years. Good luck to you! He is all about power and authority. Does that make him feel more manly and more christian like? The school needs to become more friendly to ALL, not just a chosen few. and bingo, oh, i was told that they definetly do not get any kind of tuition breaks and they do it just for the school. who knows.

Superintendent? I hope they see the real sneek before that would ever happen. He was not a nice man at all. And what kids liked him? Maybe the real young ones. He cared only about himself. The teachers didn't like him nor did us parents. I agree with what Why Still There said, why get rid of the two teachers when they were already teaching there. Why change something that is not broken. Is there a chance that they can return now that he is gone? Or have they already been replaced? I know he does read these postings because one of his close confidants at St. Damian told a bunch of us. So here is to you, glad you are gone!!
