Is the city going to collect sec 8 on these buildings? My street looks like cobble stone and they are buying more buildings. What's the payoff?

God forbid the jackwad idiot from patch ask a question as to what's gonna be done with them. Then again, when you're nothing more than a tool of the mayors office, we shouldn't expect you to use that 5th grade education, should we?

Man Dude, I sure wish I had the credit card these folks have, I would just spend, spend, spend and spend more! Who cares the Taxpayers will not care they will just keep listening to the story that comes out of city hall!

Just a very hollow wind from up there, as we cut back to try and save money, they just keep digging and digging into my pocket! Folks if you are going to Coitus me, then at least take me out for dinner first! Why did I not get the memo that I need to forward any money I have directly to city hall, so they can burn through it???

Really. For such a long time I have heard people say that the city should buy up those dumpy apartments and make that area nice again. the city is finally making moves to clean up the area and the complaining has already started. maybe the taxpayers will be happy that the city is doing something did you ever think of that?

Bet you will be wondering in about 3-4 yrs why the city is filing for bankruptcy...Bet you you'll be wondering why city will again tell you they are broke again...Bet your wondering why there aren't more police officers patroling the streets too....Bet your wondering why your water bill is so much higher than neighboring communities and going higher...Bet you wondering why your paying 25% more for refuse service than say Oak Lawn, Midlothian, Chicago Ridge, etc. Bet your wondering when the city cooked up the idea to start buying up all these properties. Bet you are wondering why all these property purchases are secret till it appears on an agenda. Bet you are wondering why they didn't tell you about the $pending plans. Bet you wondering why the econ develop dept is out approaching exsisting business about selling out to city even though the businesses like where they are already located. Bet you wonder why city TIF's so much to lower commericial property taxes and attempt to raise commericial property values but keeps raising your propery tax 5% each year. Bet you wonder where all the disposable cash is coming from while all city costs skyrocket. Bet after these deals you wonder why city increased the line of credit from 1.5 mil to 2 mil? Bet you might want to think past the end of yor keyboard, step back, and wonder how you are going to pay the 40+mil the city has out in bonds and has joined the land bank which translates into more bonding authority. Bet you in 10yrs., you will be wondering how come you can't afford your house anymore cause the taxes/costs will have doubled again??? Bet you if you pay your property taxes, extra sales taxes, and bookloads of fees, fines, and regulation costs you might have to develop a few more questions.

city of oak forest you have no money so you raised property taxes, sales taxes, water taxes rates but yet you still have money to buy property. WTF I am sick of it Im being taxed out of my home $800 a month in property taxes, that's crazy if I had known they would be like this when I bought I would have never bought in OF. My area looks like a ghost town of forclosed homes, people are leaving due to the property taxes and end up just letting them go, the banks sell them for next to nothing and the city keeps increasing my taxes.

We have a bunch of incompetent fools running this city. if you see Hank out and about he won't look you in the eye. Buying this property is a financial disaster in this economy. But you know what, I am not surprised at anything they do. And they don't feel a need to explain anything! We just spend large amounts of your tax money and we aren't going to tell you why! What could they be possibly planning for that whole block on Cicero that is separated by railroad tracks? It's insanity. Which council member lives near there and wants them gone? The Church? Is it for sale to recoup taxpayers money? Nope. The restaurant? Now apartment buildings?

Just an example of this City of Oak Forest Policy - Line of Credit now $2.0mm from the last 2 year of $1.5mm! "To get us through tight fiscal times!" Colleen Julian. Give backs from all the bargaining units due to being fiscally in a bad situation, but now as before (House Of Kuspa Building), we will purchase properties with taxpayers dollars and invest funds to bring them to code, or now the Apartments, become a landlord. Mr. Dotson will tell all of us they are prime properties for Condo/Townhomes, what was the quote, " High end Development in the Rolling hills of our oldest area of town!" REALLY!! What about collecting the Sales Taxes due, like Marathon Gas on 151st and Cicero, can't do it now, sorry closed! What about applying your ordinances to make sure this town looks good to developers? Oh not a great priority! What about Safety services to help combat increasing petty crime? Let's just make a joke about selling old city assets, or joke about buying properties because it is close to a sitting alderman! What is the problem with these current folks, don't they see how the taxpayers are suffering from all this spending? Just makes more people turned off about this city!

It is not helping the citizens inthis city, who is all this spending really helping?

When have these plans been placed before the Taxpayers to make sure it is where they all want to go?

I agree, those buildings are a haven for crime and drugs. When a potential developer comes into town the first thing he sees is a bunch of ugly, crime filled slum apartments. They needed to start this program years ago, Gordon saw the value in it, but lost before he was able to institute the program. Way to go Oak Forest, get rid of all of them, maybe developers will take another look at us. I ask the usual whiners, Would you want to live near them, or place your business there? If you can't afford the taxes, leave, who cares what you say or do,

I have lived her for almost 10 years now and i don't find the yearly increases to my city taxes as unreasonable. this year it was 3 percent, which to me means an extra 20 dollars or so per year. I don't think 20 is suffering. My cable tv costs more per year than my oak forest city taxes.

I doubt you are paying 800 a month to oak forest. maybe to all taxing bodies in cook county, but not oak forest. take a look at what you pay the schools.

I hope they raise them enough that you have to give up your house. We would be better off with your house foreclosed than listening to you whine.

Great point, but schools don't get to issue bond issues like city government does or is doing now! Really man, TIF's and Bond Issues mortgages the future, which will impact the home values!

At least the money going into schools would help the home values, since good schools draw buyers to this town! On the other side of this discussion, TIF's and Bonding Mortgage all the future and never will guarantee that developers will come to the city's aid! That is just another Dotson's fairytale! He might as well tell them, at the council meeting or on the cable, no one ever asks him any valid questions about his proposals, just rubber stamping as they go!

He now gets paid by Manhard, once done as an illegal action, had to be done again, and now the city has put him up as the Land Bank Chief, another goofy self serving move that will only place more debt on the people in Oak Forest! Great plan, not sure that any previous mayor would ever want their name on any of the actions going on now!

Mine went up $20 this year and if I remember right it went up 30 last year. thats a whopping total of maybe a bit over 50 for two years. this is for all of my city services, police and fire. I am happy that the city is buying up the crap properties unless those places get removed or get cleaned up there is no hope of the city attracting new families or businesses. which would you prefer in those areas? bums and low income housing with section 8 renters or hope for new single family homes or a new business or two?

It will be a blessing to see these apartments go. When I look through the police blotters, 157th and Lamon is regularly noted. Even though I agree with this move, it is important that the leadership does not let this decision financially hinder the town. Taxes are high enough. Taxes have gone up thousands in a relatively short time. How many years do you think it will take for all of us to pay $1,000 a month in taxes?? That is where we are headed if this trend continues. If you don't have a problem with that then you must be rich.
You really feel the sting when you are a new homebuyer. The exemptions are taken away and your taxes unexpectedly sky rockets. They don't tell you that when you buy a house.

I am all for buying up the crap apartments but there has to be a plan. Is the church and restaurant going to be sold for a profit? If not, dont do it. The Church wont be sold because Hank will have to tell his boarders they have to leave. Its not gos business.
