Oak Forest Chili cook off - Join in!!

[Dutch Oven Chef]

March 7 is the second annual Chili cook off at Oak Forest HS! It is sponsored by the music boosters and offers cash prizes for the best chili in town! It costs $20 to enter and you can win up to $250! It will take place in the HS cafeteria from 1-4. If you just want to come and taste all the different chilis, you can do that for a $5 admission fee and can taste chili until they are all gone!

To enter the contest, please contact Liz Lang at [e-mail]. If you don't want to make chili, come up and have some and support the music department.

Entertainment will be provided by the OFHS music department.

Yes, I am. I'd love to meet you and all the other Topix folks up there! I have been told it is a fun event (I did not attend last year's). There are going to be several performances by the music students, raffles and, of course, good chili to eat!

I am certainly going to try to be there. I'll see if kc can make it too...but being Sunday, she may not be able to.

My chili will be called either Dutch Oven Chili or Scoutmaster Chili (depending on which one I make, it will probably be the Scoutmaster version as all my Dutch Ovens are in my camper). All the entries need to have a posterboard with all the ingredients. You'll see me there, I'm just a little blonde guy as I am sure WW can confirm.....(said with tongue placed firmly in cheek!)

I did well and got a lot of compliments on my chili but did not win any prizes!

There were 22 chili chefs competing and I felt bad for the judges as a lot of them were very good. There was one "professional" entry from Doug's Dogs that won in both the popular and judge's vote. I thought theirs, while good, tasted more like canned chili.

Oh well, like my team the Cubs, it's wait til next year!

I didn't mention that the chili must have been good since I ran out with about a half hour left in the program!

I have to wait and see if my request for coverage by the SouthtownStar happened. I asked them to see me when they came and I didn't hear anything from them. I am a subscriber so if they were there, I'll see the story!

I don't think I will see anything though..... which is a bummer because there were a lots of local folks there and it would have been a fun story to cover.

I'm sorry I didn't make it either. But you said your chili was gone early, and I wasn't going to get there til late.

The Southtown Star was there and the article will be in the paper sometime this week. They also took pictures! I hope they put in the article that all the money winners donated their winnings back to the Oak Forest Music Boosters!

That's good to know. I asked the guy I talked to about covering the event to have them see me and I never talked to anyone. I'll be watching for the article! Thanks for clearing that up.

It was great that the money was donated back too! Did all of them do that because I only thought the second place finisher donated it back?

I ran out at about 3:30 or so. No problem on not making it, we'll meet somewhere down the road!
