Why don't we see police patroling the areas during and after school lets out? I live a block away from my kids school and it's unsafe for them to walk to school. Last year it was really crazy with all the incidences happening (van, cars asking kids to get in there car). When I'm driving my kids to school I always look out for the children that walk to and from school. Once I stop to make sure the kid who was talking to an adult if he was ok and knew the man. He did thank goodness.

Correct me if I'm wrong, learn to be parent, but isn't it the job of local police to serve and protect? If there is a known problem around this original poster's school, then yes there should be more police presence. BTW, schools are responsible for the safety and well being of a child while in school. If the school knows there is a problem with strangers talking to kids before/after school then they should be requesting assistance from the local police. All that said, there are a lot of lazy parents that need to get off their behinds and see that their child arrives to and from school safely. It's a joint effort on all involved.

You're right, it is a joint effort of parents, schools and police to keep our kids safe. That is great to stop and ask if the child was ok, you can never be too careful, especially with everything that supposedly was happening last year. I did notice police around our school every once in a while after some of those incidents, but I think there should have been more, even if there were community service officers or emergency management people just showing a presence in the area. A pervert can take any child off the street if they are so inclined, no matter what kind of parenting that child receives. The person who posted about learning to be a parent is very ignorant, what if something like that happened to their child, if any, or their niece or nephew, would they still be saying that??

We as parents need to teach our children about the dangers of strangers.Teach them to not go near a vehicle of someone they do not know (sometimes even people they do know can be just as dangerous)tell your children to yell and scream as loud as they can and fight back bite run do whatever they can if there is a pole nearby to wrap their body around that pole as tight as they can . Someone trying to abduct a child does not want attention focased on them and they will take off leaving the child behind. p.s did you ever try to get a child wrapped around a pole off -extreamly hard thing to do. It is up to us as parents to teach our children about stranger danger the police can only do so much

I could be mitaken but I think that an O.F. police officer has recently caught one of these van people in the act of luring a kid. I think he actually got a metal for it. They are doing their jobs.

We definitely need more police patrols in the neighborhoods. I agree they do a fine job.

The people that were approaching kids last year were a man and a woman in a white pickup truck (some said with a red stripe).

So I wouldn't quite say mission accomplished quite yet, be vigilant...

While a single attempt at a child abduction is too much, I believe the first poster gives the impression these were happening all over the place, I don't believe that to be true.

If you are concerned about a situation at your child's school, did you speak to someone about it, or just post it here? I don't know, but I don't think the Police Department is reading these blogs. If you call and ask for police presence, they will respond.

Some of the posters think if they post on here the cops will find out. Too late, if they do hear. Call the police, and forget the blog, it does no good.
