Problems are everywhere with this gym. First, it has taken them months to get some of the promised amenities (cardio machines, etc), much of the equipment looks like it has been used in other gyms and the restrooms/showers are simply not clean-looking.
I would say staff is nice; however they lied through their teeth about the cancellation process. They claimed it would be $50 if you wanted to cancel but, after being told by the gym they can't handle cancellation, I called the provided 800 number paid the now inflated cancellation fees only to told a month later that the people I spoke to at the 800 number could not handle cancellations and that I would need to handle it at the gym. I continue to be billed
So, at this point, I would not recommend this gym to an enemy.

I can first hand tell you that, how they conduct business is very shady, to both members, and employees. They cut so many corners its nuts. They have fired workers there from speaking their mind, and have recently fired someone w/out even giving that person a reason why.
Your right, the cancelationg fee is a joke. They will tell you anything you want to hear so you would sign the contract. They will bill you for the 1st and the last month payment on signing up, and even when u cancell, they will bill you again for that last month. Go get a regular gym membership instead.

L.A. BOXING IN ORLAND PARK IL. My daughter signed up for a one month package for 89.00. After the initial payment in June '09 L.A. Boxing continued to charge the 89.00 per month. I cancelled my credit card and they continued to charge my daughter for Aug. and Sept. and have no intention of stopping the payment. My daughter never went back to the gym after her one month was up. The billing company ASF America Service F? International in Denver Colorado 1-800525-8967 say they control the billing and cacellation at the orders of the stores and you must send a copy of the contract, and blah blah blah, but they did not stop the continuous billing. My daughter said she has friends who are being chaged $1,500.00 and one boy is up to $3,000.00 in fees and he does not attend the gym. I am contacting the Attorney General in Illnois, and the local papers to stop this. In this economy we don't need more greedy con artisits.

I agree with all the statements here. ASF International lies cheats and out right makes a mess of everything they touch. The gym was just okay but the workers were very nice. As the gym was new, one would have expected a better level of cleanliness. I wouldn't suggest the gym but I would personally suggest Mike as a personal trainer, if he still works there. I left the club months ago

la boxing sucks!! i signed up for their 1 year membership and paid for the first month and for the last month when i joined. i was their member for more than 15 months. i frooze my membership for 3 months thinking that i would rejoin. but that didn't happenend and i tried to cancel my membership. first of all they gave me such a hard time cancelling the membership, then they charged me for another month because i sent the form 3 weeks in advance as against to 4 weeks. they even didn't returned the last month payment that i paid when i joined the gym saying that they are doing a favor by not charging me cancellation fee. when asked about cancellation fee, they told me WHEN YOU FREEZE THE MEMBERSHIP FOR EVEN A MONTH, you sign up for another year!!..what the f*** is that?? freezing membership signs you for another year!!! be careful while signing any contract and keep all the copies if you ever want to cancel.

It depends on where you live. Where I'm at, the trainers are amazing, friendly, and nearly all of them are pro or amateur boxers/kickboxers/mma fighters. They also had cool events like Fight Nights where members can sign up to fight each other in a card. Every time a referral signs up, you get $5 off your dues.(I've gotten mine down from 64 all the way down to 44 per month) At my gym, you do sign a contract, but they thoroughly explained that 1. If you decide to freeze and are still on contract, it costs $15.00 2. If you decide to cancel, you have to give them one months notice. However, I believe that the experience with this gym has been positive for me because 1. It's locally owned and they put in a lot of work and effort to separate themselves from the typical fake boxing gyms (As in, although fitness is their primary goal, they set aside time for people who actually want to train but can't afford the even pricer fighting gyms) and 2. I've taken the time the get to know the trainers as well as the owners.

Unfortunately most gyms are this way. I have been in the martial arts / MMA world for a while and though it is sometimes a horrible pain in the ass, I can understand why they want to lock you in for a year long membership contract. The nature of people coming and going is too much for most gyms to sustain any solid member base, estimate cost/payment for new equipment and also hard to keep high level trainers if nobody ever shows up. Most people go into places like LA boxing assuming they will throw a couple punches and go home. Once they see that this is am actual tough workout at least half want to quit.
Of course I'm on the side of the underdog and I do know how it feels to get juiced on memberships you do not use. I think the fair decision would be to simply make sure you know all the details on cancellation and have it in writing before signing up for any gym membership. I have def. been pushed into deals (regular fitness clubs) where I was on the phone with a collections agency in India arguing over exactly when I cancelled. That is nearly impossible let me tell you...
