I am thinking of moving to Mount Carmel. I know nothing about this area. I live on Long Island, NY. The house is on Oak Street. I'm hoping for honest answers and polite ones, too. What is life like in Mount Carmel? What do you do for fun, are there estate sales and antiques for sale? This is a huge move for me so I'm hoping you can help me out. Thank in advance.

Hi
I also am moving to Mount Carmel from the city. Itís a small town with people who love America , love family, and love their town I think. If you are looking for affordable housing and want to live in a town thatís not too isolated. 3 Churches are still active there. I donít think itís perfect, but they seem to care about school and athletics. Young people have few jobs so thatís a problem, but the world is a crazy place for young people right now. Hershey is less than an hour away. I hear there are a few good places to eat so there is town pride in that. I donít drink but I read they have bars.

With housing prices so high-especially where you live now-and your property taxes up there are crazy-, I think itís a good option unless you have to commute to work. I have already worked for 47 years and now retired at 62. The sun index there is 89 so planting a garden would be nice. I hear winters are really snowy winters. I think the lack of jobs hit hard and many houses were foreclosed on by banks. Some of those homes were abandoned and sitting but now being bought up quickly by people looking for affordable housing and living in PA where taxes are lower and no tax on pensions, and small town vibes with traditional attitudes. Also people just moved away for a more manageable financial life. I think anyone bringing big city demands to idealism there would be crushed. You either fit in or go back.
Itís going to be what you care to make it I think. Bring your smiles, recipes, Patience, coffee, recliner and American flag and you should be fine. I plan to.
