16 year old Lopez Island (Wa) teen Thomas James Kramer was sentenced to 36 weeks in a Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration facility for one count of vehicular homicide for killing Paul Jaholkowsky in a July 26 car crash. For the two counts of vehicular assault, and three counts of reckless endangerment, he will serve 45 days in the JRA.

Tommy Kramer was driving illegally, at the age of 15, no license, and more than double the speed limit when he killed Mr Jaholkowsky and severely injured a 7 year old girl on Lopez Island.

Kramer was repeatedly warned by others not to drive. One of the victims, his friend who was in the car with Kramer and severely injured, begged him to stop.

He was sentenced to 36 weeks for the vehicular homicide plus 45 days for the assault.

I still say WTH! 36 weeks for murder 45 days for assault and destroying the young lives of others. Tragic.

Thanks for clarifying!

The boy in question is being released from a 'bootcamp style' juvenile detention facility on June 9th, 2010. By successfully completing this program, he was able to get out early. I sincerely hope he finally 'got it' while incarcarated...he sure didn't before he left the island. 2 days after killing Paul (the jogger) he went to dinner with a friend at the very restaurant Paul ate at with his friends before being hit that fateful day. He went to the county fair with friends, worked out at the local gym, hung out at the local pool, spent lots of time with his girl friend...unbelievable. While many people here did and do support him and his family, MANY don't. His mother should have been the one to be locked up. She'll never get it. The grandmother of the boy (passenger) who was injured actually set up an account at the local bank as a defense fund for Tommy (the driver). I think she wishes she hadn't now. While Tommys been at 'camp' his mom and step-dad took a trip to Vegas and just bought a brand new van (just in time to go pick Tommy up after he 'graduates'.) What a crock of crap. I hope the family of the little girl, Pauls family and the passengers family all sue for their expenses and suffering. Tommy and his family don't seem to be suffering...a hit in the pocketbook might be the only thing that gets through to them.

Has the boy really been released? We were told he would have to do a lot of hours of community service. Does anyone know if that is still in place?

Those who supported Tommy are losers who have no conscience. They're as cold hearted as Tommy. I wonder how they would feel if Tom had killed a member of their family.

Anonymous in Abbotsford: Yes, Tommy was released in June, before school even got out here. He has been working all summer to pay his $10,000 fine. And guess what!? He just bought a little boat for himself. He was able to motor over to Friday Harbor to go to the fair. Thought he wasn't suppose to operate any motorized vehicles, but I guess a boat doesn't count. Can you believe this crap? If any of you know any of the families involved, PLEASE tell them to file a civil suit. Money will never bring Paul back or take the pain away from that little girl, but I can guarantee that it's the only thing that will affect Tommy and his mom.

And daycare was only a couple years ago I see. You and Tommy can go crabbing and never come back. It wouldn't matter to us.

I understand where the anger and rage comes from the people who don't know tommy and just see it ftom the sterio typical point of view, but it was clearly an accident. He didn't wske up that day and decide 'hmm I'm going to go hit someone today' shit doesn't happen like that sorry to tell you. Tommy is one of the sweetest, most caring, and fun people I've been around. When someone ssys he is a great guy, they are absolutely telling the truth. He made a mistake, it happens! He delt with the consequences and still is. Of course he was going to spend time with his girlfriend and try to do his everydy stuff like usual because sitting at home mourning over what happened wasnt going to chane anything!!! The accident is very tragic, and I am so sorry for the families involved, but he didn't mean to do it, and it honestly doesn't make him a bad person. Please listen to the facts and understand that you need to not judge someone without getting to know them first. Guarentee, anyone who spent 20 minutes with the kid, would know what I'm talking about (:

Almost 2 years ago to the day that my friend Paul died on Lopez. I miss him incredibly and no amount of time Tommy spent in prison will ever bring him back to us.
