I'm amazed at some of this behavior. First off, I sure hope a lot of you ignorant folks are NOT from Marin, we try to keep that garbage out of here. You got a lot of balls bad-mouthing a local small business owner on the internet. You're just sending out a beacon of stupidity for everyone to see. Second, I'm disappointed in the IJ for this article. What a half-assed, under-researched twisted version of the story. These people are SLUMLORDS and always have been. I'm an employee of Broadway video and a local, and it's practically common knowledge that the whole building, including the other business', is not and has not been up to code in years. In addition, the rent continues to climb for no other reason but greed. Why has the old Albertson's been vacant for years? Because no smart business would pay 40k a month for that place. It was only after the landlords were made aware that there were going to be tests for this chemical that they evicted us, and with a great deal of urgency- wait, no, dare I say, PANIC? Yeah, they knew damn well what was in there and didn't want to get busted. Readers, do your own research before you go on a local paper article and bad-mouth locals. MARIN IJ, do the responsible thing and get all the facts before you go publishing like this. How rude, especially to end on such a preposterous note. Shame on you.
And the staff as a whole thanks those people who support us in these trying times.

That center - the Fair/Anselm Center - has been a ghetto since the day it was built. It's a classic example of cheap sixties construction that does not (and did) not age well. Just look at those ghetto apartment across and up the street toward Fairfax, same crappy construction and look. Is the landlord a slumlord? Maybe. Is the owner of the business here kind of a nut? Maybe.

Sure, the owner and landlord have their claims...but what about the REAL suffererers...the employees who will find out too late that they had been fools to trust this lot. This lot?
The landlord, the owner, the county inspector...the whole shebang.
These landed, moneyed fools are class criminals who exploit the disadvantaged fot their own gain.
Worry not, the tide comes and goes...
Ummm, the landlord and the county weren't involved in any hazardous material generation. It was, if anything, another working person that was responsible. Or don't you feel that small business owners are working people?

Cause and effect...do you understand the "chain of responsibility" in a property based legal system? Simp.
1. the landLORD( lord implies responsibility) makes a buck on the business of renting...quite patriotic
2. the business of renting involves risk...
3. the essential job SKILL required is weighing cost/ benefit of a particular tenant. It is a gamble...one tries.
4.A cleaning business is one of those considered potentially risky to the immediate environment.
5.sounds like there has been some spillage. Predictable. Like rain.
6. So the landLORDs bet backfired...now he owns a toxic site.
7.He decided to rent to a cleaner like a free American...good.
Now he must face the music for his choices...good.
America still works if we would only let it.

What is wrong with your logic? How come toxic chemicals used for dry cleaning do not alarm you? Go heat up your dinner and put your head right next to the microwave, just because you can....I cannot even stand that this is disputed, he should not be evicted and should be applauded for attempting to keep Big Box Movie stores out. But you probably want plastic boobs, nose jobs, BMW's and bolinas to fall into the lagoon huh. How about an ipod/starbucks/tide/mcdonals/c hevron/GMAC united corporate states of the americas wake up call, you must be from LA...Go back to your Strip mall and buy your slave clothes....

That guy is a **** that drove many small video stores out of business by undercutting them at a loss and then jacking up his prices when they were gone.
He's simply trying to claim a tax deductible loss and get a ticket onto the Out Of Court Settlement Gravy Train with the landlord while avoiding a bad credit rating.
This sounds like standard practice for the USGOV...What is the issue here? This is how Blockbuster does business...I am on Broadway video side for even trying...Most slaves just accept slavery...

Excuse me. You just can't resist capping on the medpot revolution , canya? I resent you joking about it. It keeps the jive going..dig. I know its fun...but think about it.
Remember in grade school (I'm45) when some low IQ kid would tease a black kid or say words you KNEW to be bad...and you felt weird.
You knew it was wrong to be prejudiced. I feel this way about medpot. I have a real spinal condition. MRI sez so. But the pain in my sexy disabled body sez so louder. Medpot helps HELLA!!
So, my dear friend...I have instructions for you...
1.grab you shoulders .......tightly
2 .start pulling .....gently but firmly...keep going....yes...!
3 You should soon hear a loud popping sound followed by bright lights and loud noises.
4. inhale deeply and thank GOD almighty that your head remained intact after being UP D' ASS for such an extended period of time.Say thank you.

I appreciate your online name calling. Cool people do that. Keep on sleeping in your american nightmare, one day you will wake up rudely. Just because you might have a silver spoon in your mouth does not mean you have to show it off and be disrespectful to others by calling them "loser". If you want factory farmed GMO food, fake feeling, and a fake life, go for it! Take your V8 all the way!!!!

By the way, your slave made V8 was not made in the united corporate states of the americas, it was assembled in american colonies where labor is cheap and job safety has no place. More like detention prison camps where laborers are mistreated and abused. Do you really feel as if your car was assembled in a picture perfect factory in the midwest somewhere by family loving union workers? Give me a break, that's such a fantasy. It's parts were constructed in foreign countries with slave trade agreements with the united corporate states of the americas and then shipped to american colonies off the traditional lower 48 states for assembly so that they can literally get away with labor camps...Ask the dealer that sold you your car if he or she really knows where the rear view mirror was assembled, or where the plastic for your glove box was formed...You will be surprised. Ah but yet again, I get grossly off topic. I wish I could just go to good old Broadway video and get a movie and just close my eyes to the reality of the destruction caused by personalities such as yourself.

Oh wait wait, they washed your car here in the US when it was shipped here from whatever International colony if was produced, that makes it american. Just because it says made in USA only means the USA stamp was stamped on it in the USA, that's it...Sometimes not even then.

ALL OF YOU FREAKIN PEOPLE CRACK ME UP , I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE LANDLORD OR OWNER , MY CONCERN IS FOR THE HUMAN BEINGS THAT WORKED THERE , I'M SURE IT WAS THEIR CAREER CHOICE TO ADVANCE UP THROUGH THE RANKS OF A VIDEO STORE TO BECOME THE CEO OR CFO OR C WHATEVER ..... THEY WERE PROBABLY SAVING EVERY PENNY , SO THEY COULD ENJOY THE AMERICAN DREAM OF HOME OWNERSHIP IN MARIN ... THE AREA WAS CONTAMINATED , THEY CLEANED IT UP IN 2001 , AND THE CLEANERS STOPPED USING THE CHEMICALS IN 2006 , SO I'M SURE THAT THE CHEMICALS THAT THEY USED FOR 5 YEARS AFTER THE CLEAN UP JUST DESOLVED AWAY INTO NEVER NEVER LAND AND WERE MADE HARMLESS ... THE ONLY PEOPLE IN ANY DANGER WERE THE ONES WHO WORKED THERE , ONCE THE REPORT OF CONTAMINATION WAS FILED , EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO DANGER TO ANYONE PASSING BY, THE STORE HAD TO BE CLOSED TO PROTECT THE WORKERS ..... WHAT BOTHERS ME IS WHY THE CHEMICALS WERE ALLOWED TO BE USED AFTER THE CLEAN UP , FROM 2001 THROUGH 2006 AND WHO KNEW ABOUT IT.....

News flash, The state has just issued a 29 page enforcement order against the landlord. After half a year of blaming the video store owner of fabricating stories about the toxic poisons at the shopping center, the landlord has admitted to leaving the poison in the ground to save money when they were supose to clean it up in 2000. This is a criminal act. After the video store relieves the landlord of his money, the D.A. should send him to jail.
The Health Club came up dirty as well.

Yes it look like the store owner just might end up having a cause for tort.
As for the landlord good luck once a toxic waste site always a toxic site.
Even if they clean up a site you can't remove it all.
Place the waste has to be incinerated to dispose of it properly both will cost the property owner a arm and a leg.
Piece of adivice for the video store owner make him pay you for all the damages you deserve.
He didn't disclose the facts that in and of itself should be used to put the property owner in jail for a stretch.
God some people are such lying, disgusting sleazeballs they deserve to go to prison.
