if there wasn't so much crime and violence in downtown san rafael, I would go there more often. Al Boro and the Marin Board of Supervisors created this sanctuary city that is now over run with illegals, criminals, and homeless. Al Boro and the supes both pinp and pander to those that don't buy anything. Their bleeding liberal hearts have not room for business. They have created such a business unfriendly environment it is no wonder all the businesses are struggling. Don't blame the economy, there is plenty of money in marin, blame Al Boro, Hal Brown, Charles McGlashan but leave the most blame for Susan Socialist Adams. How Susan Socialist Adams got re-elected is beyond me, oh wait, the unions paid her off. And as we know, unions hate business. Gee, it is all making sense now.

Crime in San Rafael? Sure there is a little, but if you consider it a problem you probably should just never leave your home. The crime in nearly any other city is going to be much higher. And for wanting something to be another Tiburon I thank god it's not another Tiburon. We don't need another hoity toity snobby town in this county. We have enough already.

Sans Gluten Free Grocery?

Does that mean that there is nothing gluten free to buy there?

can you even imagine that the incredibly puritanical ij censor actually blocked out the word for a female dog..
with all the horribly cruel and sick things that some people say on these posts, that do go through, that's just beyond amazing

For the sake of the new businesses that are opening (and yay...gluten free grocery store!!)I hope that St. Vincent's Dining hall cleans up their act - that will go a long way to making that block more attractive to shoppers. We stopped going to Signature Thai for dinner because we were constantly hit up for spare change or food or whatever from the bums hanging out on B St. Every time I drive by, there are dozens of homeless hanging out on the sidewalks, sitting everywhere, smoking, etc. and they are congregating down that alley way and also across the street at the psedo-church building on the northwest corner of B and Second (what is with that building anyway??)

So good luck to the new owners. Can't wait to see your stores and shop.

"Andrew Bowman walks outside his new furniture store, J. Grigg,..... The store features furnishings with a nostalgic, Euro-industrial beach look."

Ok the IJ should have given us some photos of what this guy will be selling....because I can't even picture what "nostalgic Euro-industrial beach look" is. I even did a Google search and found nothing.....seriously? Is that really a type of furniture and furnishings?

The gluten store can give all their left overs to the dining hall. Very convienient.
If the stuff is any good ait may even attract more homeless.

The rebirth will really begin when the dining hall is moved to Andersen Dr.- not before.

Crime and violence in downtown San Rafael? Barely. If even. If downtown San Rafael scares you, you've been living in a bubble for far too long.

Sorry, there is a festering boil called the dining hall on that street and until it goes nothing will prosper there.Like giving aspirin to a leper.

Unfortunately parking & walking on B street between 2nd and 3rd puts one (esp. females) in the position of fending off comments and dodging the St. Vincent de Paul Dining "clients" hanging around. I think it's great that B St. is being revived BUT something really needs to be done about all of the loiterers.

Simple solution, just leave. We don't need people like you.
What leave Yonkers? You sound like you're peddling a foreign cultural agenda from your NYC redoubt. All people from Brooklyn please go back home. i.e. Susan Adams and half of the Marin Community Foundation board.
