Why doesn't Folcroft have July 4th parade or fireworks? Our town needs more community pride.

I am a Councilman in Folcroft. I agree with you. Since i was a kid, the 4th has always been my favorite holiday.

You know it just cracks me up that because I am the only Democrat on Council, my fellow Councilman and I often tease each other about high profile members from our respective party. Just the other day I caught some flack because one of my fellow councilman actially beleived that Barack Obama refuses to put his hand on his heart during the national anthem. Although his accusation is in fact NOT TRUE I reponded by simply saying this: "don;t talk to me about putting my hand over my heart when you people blatanly refuse to celebrate the birth of our nation and the first National holiday." LOL

Its not as easy as it sounds. I am only one vote on Council and in order to get something like that going, Council would have to give us some money.
There has been an alternative proposed though. The Council President felt that a "community day" sometime in the summer would be a good idea, considering that all of our neighboring towns do something for the fourth of July. I'm not entirely opposed to it.
The great part about this is that taxpayers wont have to pay for it at all. Beneficial Bank has offered to pick up the tab as teh Community sponsor. Any thoughts?

By your very own admission, the old (Truscello) Republicans, had an ocean of contempt for the new (Independent) Republicans. You stated so in your campaign literature, and mentioned on this board that they wouldn’t even attend committee functions.

Seeing as there were NO Old Republican candidates on the ballot, look me square in the cyber-eye and tell me that the old regime didn’t vote for you.
While you're at it, tell me that two of your running mates weren’t Republicans and switched their party affiliation.

You had more of card carrying, documented Truscello boys on your team than the Republican opposition.

So who is it that you obviously have, and continue to take orders from?

I am sure that members of the old regime probably did vote for me. But when we consider the numbers at closer range we can see that it appears that quite a few of your people voted for me too.

Don't let me have to remind anyone that my family was in the trenches fighting the Truscello regime in the early 1990's when these so called "Independant Republicans" were either in Truscellos back pocket, to cowardly to get involved or now where to be found... So don't you dare presume to accuse me of any association with that man. Just because i have tried to be peaceful by associating with all sides and showing fairness to people from all ends of the spectrum does not mean that associate or confer with a given faction! Anyone who lived in Folcroft in through the 1990's knows how hard my mother fought Tony Truscello!

Just remember, whether you like it or not... at some point or another either you or a member of your family or next of kin was in Truscellos back pocket. Well hooray for the choir boy! The so called Independents were not in politics in the 1990's let alone be in Truscello's back pocket. But on the other hand your cohorts were not only in his pocket but took orders like good little soldiers.

They have also been seen with Truscello in the past two months. So little boy wake up they still take their orders from Truscello.

At nearly 30 years old, I can assure you that i am no one's little boy, But I appreaciate the compliment. I suppose that taking good care of myself has paid off well and with dividends!

I would like to clairify for you that I have not spoken to or seen Truscello since the court Preceedings.

Moreover, I should note that I do not restrict my "cohorts" from speaking to whom ever they'd like to confer with. It is a free country! However I highly doubt that there is any truth to your allegations. It sounds to me more like rumor by design...

Just for the record though, Councilman Schram ran on the Endorsed republican ticket with Truscello's people. He then ran with the Independant Republicans. And I happen to think he is a fine Councilman and an awsome guy. I sit next to him at every meeting And I enjoy the good company.

The Truscello years are behind us. He is now senile and fast on his way to jail. He's History Blue Eyes. GONE WITH THE WIND!

Its funny though how bringing the guys name up is like talking to children about the boogie man! LOL

While we are on the topic... I cannot help but get the sense that Truscello is now used by all factions involved when its time to divert the conflict away from the issues. Lets leave him in the past where he belongs! Its getting old now!!! From now on, I am not interested in discussing the past. Its OVER. Why revisit the pain. Politically speaking... He's dead! Lets bury him!

And do let me apologize for starting this shit show. I should have never allowed our discussion to move in this direction in the first place! I would be happy to take the partial responsability for this conflict in order to get it behind us. In the mean time, lets get back to the issue...

Who is using my posted name and why don't you use another name instead of mine. All I wanted to know was if we could have a parade and you made comments using my name. What an asshole!

The good news is that Councilwomen Patty Boudwin has started the ball rolling for a "family day" sometime in August. Its not a 4th of July Parade but its a start. I think it'll be a nice event. Patty is good at this sort of thing. She was instrumental in helping to get the After Prom program started again at Southeast Delco back when I was in Highschool.

While it may be tolate to get a fourth of July thing rolling, we are pursuing a few other options to encourage community participation activities like this.

About people using other peoples names here, There is a way to find out who did it, ya know... Depending on what was aid, it could be considered criminal activity, but thats only if you actually use your real name. I did my homework on that before i decided to use my name.

I grew up in Delmar Village in the 60's and 70's. Folcroft used to have an awsome parade, activities over at Delcroft Elementary, a married vs single softball game and then fireworks at Montgomery Park in the evening (later behind the library). I'm not sure the Borough gave anything to this. There was a group of local residents who formed the Folcroft Fourth of July Committee. They would raise funds throughout the year, sometimes door to door with the assistance of a fire engine, other times with beef and beers, or some other function. The committee actually shot the fireworks off themselves, until one of the guys blew part of his hand off. Then the pros were called. I've been gone for a while, and it's a shame it doesn't exist anymore. But, don't look to the Borough Counsel to get it going- it was a group of guys acting on there own who made it happen every year.

The "so-called Independents" you keep referring to toppled Truscello... not you or your Mother. And if I recall correctly, you thanked those "so called" men and women for doing just that during a speech at the Fire House in 04'.

You can keep posting novel length responses to all of these posts, with no more rebuttal to the facts than "Well, if you look at it in a certain way..."

So, which of my facts above do you want to address as false? I'm waiting.

I will agree with you on two things. YOU should not have, nor continue to bring up Truscello on this board & you should move on.

Also, YOU should not lump together an entire party with the snide prefix "so called," and then whine on the thread that it's not fair when it's done to you (judging you alongside your running mates.)
You fought Truscello because you were a Democrat, and he was a Republican, not because you hated what he was doing. Breaking from your own party to do what is right is what takes balls my friend, not standing on a wobbly soap box nailed together by the handful of votes you won by.

I have a copy of that speach from the Fire House that night. I never "thanked" you for toppling the Truscello regime silly. You republicans have mastered the cheap art of putting words in peoples mouths. In my speach I talked about the campaign. I talked about how hard everyone worked on all sides. And then I closed by saying how important it was for us to begin to "bridge the peace among us and between us in order to moce forward.

Moreover, THE FACT IS that none of the "new Republicans were even there at the fire house at the time of my speach becasue you had all paid a visit to County leaders to begin bridging your peace there. You're a liar! And not a very good one at that!

Asside from all that RK, Here we are again... avoiding the issues. Bringing up truscello. We're on to you though RK. That is waht you clowns do when you can't get it right on the issues. You lie or divert from the issue. Its the Republican way RK. I expect nothing less from you people anymore. I had a lot of hopes that we could work together. Would it help you if I just said that I was actually just a registered Republican at the time, and not an independent?
