I am from WV. Those miners do that underpaid and dangerous job because it is the ONLY job. We all appreciate the cheap electricity but not the miners who risk their lives every day!! Changes need to be made. Safty is the issue, not $$$$$.

USD 259 budget cuts: Why no mention of cutting athletics? So much money spent on so few students.

There is an obvious, simple solution to the crisis in education funding: ELIMINATE ALL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS! Children attend school to learn; let's get back to the basics! Currently, for every boys' team there must also be a girls' team. Coaches'/athletic directors' salaries would be out of the budget. Transportation costs to out-of-town games would be eliminated. While thinking about transportation, why not eliminate all busing? Parents can make arrangements to transport their children. No athletic programs would also eliminate costs for uniforms, equipment, referee stipends as well. The moneyis not there; this is a simple solution.

Kudo's to the article by Jerry Sherwood about Wink Hartman. I would not trust that man any further than I could throw him, and I'm 71 years old.

What is the deal with PARKING downtown?? All the meters only allow 2 HOUR parking. It is a big deterent to attracting business downtown. Why not have up to 4 HOUR parking? You see many people running to put their change in these meters.
I was at our local Work-Force center (150 Main St)
classes, training sessions, interviews and computer time had to be interrupped to feed the meters. If you want to get downtown movin you need to think about easy access.
Parking is the LAST thing I want to worry about, after finally finding a place close to my business!

We at Spirit gave up 23% of our wages plus vip 5 yrs. ago. We did not recoup %10 over the last 5 years This contract for 10 yrs. we get ZERO, there is no wage increase. The union has lied all the way thru. there will be less money to support your jobs. less for the food bank, less for united way. Aircraft people donate alot which will slowly quit, The aircraft people are the ones that pay taxes, no raises means they are going to have to get them somewhere> New hires will progress till they reach the top then they are done. A new hire has no reason to stay with Spirit, use it for training and go elsewhere. People have alot of health problems working here. For people who are jealous, get up off your behind and go to work. we have worked 12 hrs a day 7 days aweek for months. we live out here. Too many lazy people can't do that.

I would bet a years salary that if all the republicans / libertarians left the country the liberals and democrats would destroy the country in less than a month.

Why does the Wichita Eagle place adversiements for the DIRT DEVIL on the "Faith and Values" church page and place the advertisements for CHRISTIAN MINISTRY education at Tabor College on the "Dog and Cat Paws" page?

I liked the comment that "nobody's right if everyone is wrong" and "what a bunch of spoiled little brats we all are". Its time for Americans to shape-up, get some discipline, get back to work and responsibility and stop tossing blame at someone 24 hours a day.

Union/bargining jobs help create jobs in Wichita and for each union job lost it has a trickle down effect on our economy. Though some people are to blind to see the goodness of organized labor, there are those of us that appreciate having a living wage to help support our communities.

I wonder how many of you uneducated union bashers have fought to keep jobs in the United States. It isn't about money. Its about the future of our children, and our country.

Thank you to the 2 young men driving by in their Kansas Gas Company truck who stopped when they saw me trying to unload a storm door from a Home Depot rented truck. It only took them minutes and they placed it in my garage then drove off. I thanked them then and I am thanking them so much again. Wichita has some wonderful people.

THANK YOU to the many businesses that contributed to the Adopt a School program that provided money for teachers to use towards classroom supplies! A special thank you to Rusty Eck for sponsoring the program and recognizing the fact that teachers spend money out of their own pockets daily to meet the needs of their students.

I just got through ironing our Wichita Eagle again so we could read it. Everyday it is this way. I enjoy reading the paper front to back, but hate to have to smooth the creases out to read a full article. I do hope this can be fixed......
