I am sure Martin Luther King Jr. is rolling in his grave. The police dept. is not going to reverse the behavior and lifestyle of an entire culture. The people have to do it themselves.

the funny buisness is the city, mayor and chief dont care about thier officers.....how do they expect cops to put thier lives at stake when when thier given the shaft by thier employer....we all signed up for the job and love what we do and do it knowing the risks, but when the risks out weigh the support from the city it is very discouraging, finch and norwood are ruing this department with thier childish behavior and negativity towards thier offiers.

Too many cops act more like mafia "wise guys" than police officers. Bullies who no business wearing a badge or carrying a gun! As for more cops in the neighborhjood... open a donut shop on every street and crime will disappear!

Mayor Finch is right and I'm glad he put it out there... There's a lot of funny business going on in the police department. This funny business Mayor Finch refers to is not new... it's been going on for years... within the fire department too. And there is nothing "funny" about it. Some of this funny business, as Finch put it, is DISCRIMINATION.

OK...lets get this straight. Ya see all these negative comments about the police? They are pretty much stereotypes. 99% of the officers are on the up and up. By making these comments, spitting on the sidewalk when an officer walks by, giving the "psssss" to an officer, it all adds up to the officer not really giving a crap. Funny business within the Department huh? I don't think so. How about a contract offer that involves a raise...not talking about just a cost of living raise...but just A raise? Doing one hell of a job for morale fellas!

If the community would cater to us more they wouldnt have to worry about us sittin on people porches or anything. There is no community centers for us and the one that we got nobody wanna come help come clean it up.The gym floors is horable.Only place to hang and enjoy ourselfs is on the streets. We need more youth job more programs. We are not bad kid thats what people make us to be.half of us graduated High School and is going to college and the other half is in school prepareing for college.there is only a hand full that does'nt have a GED.So before anybody ever try to make us look bad they need to take a look at things!!

Finch is the Mayor, not the Chief of Police. If he were to try to run the police department, he would be violating his duties. What he can do is try to remove the chief if the chief cannot get rid of the funny business.

Wah.... Wah... I'm a Bridgeport Police office making $75,000 a year, plus making over $50,000 in overtime, and have the best benefits around... did I mention my job's union protected so I can do no work and never get fired. Wah... Wah... everyone is so mean to me!

Said like another disgruntled officer. Let me guess, you're only making $120,000 and the economy is shit, yet you want a raise!?!?!?!?!

The grammar from East End Youth tells a great story of the education of the young. Perhaps you're not bad kids, but that doesn't give you the right to infringe on anyone else's property or peace of mind. If you truly want constructive activities, then make them happen. Don't just expect things to be handed to you from the community. Once you give a little, you may get a lot back out of it. Become the hero and make the changes happen; watch what happens from there.

There is No funny business...the mayor and his leaders refuse to abide by the CONTRACT...why would anyone bust their neck when they don't care about you...1159 wants raises and increases over the contract like all other depts who do 1/10th the work and don't have to deal with the crap... all the old guard needs to go along with the federal master and special interest groups which choke out the Police Dept.. and by the way to get rid of the problems its not holding hands and singing come by ya..its kicking a** and taking names.....next

Unfortunately, due to the behavior of that small percentage of "bad" cops, the police are viewed negatively, as a threat because they abuse their authority. This is not new either... people not only in Bridgeport but across the country feel the same way. It's not right but people joining the police force know all this this going in. They also know that law enforcement at the foot patrol, bike patrol, horse patrol and car patrol level is front line work, therefore, dangerous. Just like if you enlist in the military, you know you may be put in very dangerous situations - particularly during war time. So don't tell me about how when all these things add up cops just don't give a crap. That's a bunch of bull! Don't take the job if you can't take the heat! As far as getting a raise that's more than the cost of living and better contract should have nothing to do with job performing ability. The Bridgeport police officers are not being asked to take a cut in pay nor are they being furloughed. Those presently on the force have a job to do - enforce the law. If you don't like your job, for whatever reason - quit and find something else to do. This "funny business" which is discrimination and contract disputes is dangerous for the residents and people visiting or passing through the City of Bridgeport.
The East End community leaders are within their right to ask for more police presence in their neighborhood and to demand that the police step up their patrol on the side streets. If you don't ask... you won't get. And - the squeakiest wheel gets the oil.
