it may be in all hospitals, but norton community is pretty bad. tv's dont work, even killed afew spiders in my room, out dated equipment if they even have it..have also been to mountain view. much much better practices there..its true it is in all hospitals, but they dont seem to use the correct practices to keep a sanitary enviroment, or maybe its the fact you have to care first...??

Im in both of those of these hospials very often and I don't see the problems yall are speaking about except the same ole people in there trying to get hooked up on their pills but the doctors wont give them to yall so they go to the next hospital and when they can't get anything there here come the trash talking and bad mouthing. What would happen if you had no local hospital and had to drive an hour away to visit a doctor would you be trash talking then. Heck no you wouldn't. So maybe look at yourself you may be the problem bring the bugs in with you and the entire family that has to come with you because Ive seen some of you and if I was a nurse or doctor or whatever I wouldn't touch your nasty self. By the way you are not there to watch tv anyway. if you paid your bills then the hospital oould upgrade the equipment too. they are not RAM its not free health care.

I had my son in norton and I was pleased. the nurses and doctor was wonderful and I was very taken care of and so was my son. I never seen anything dirty about the place either. I havent been there since then (2010) so I dont know how it is now...but I do know I was satisifed when I was there. and all ER departments are slow. I have never been to one that hasnt been. Norton...Lebanon...Abingdon... Richlands...Bristol. all slow and freezing. they have to keep it cold because of the germs. Ask for a blanket or 2. I always do. and as for staff...every hospital has had cases of death due to staff. EVERY single one of them. the rooms are supposed to be cleaned each time a patient leaves...if it doesnt look clean...speak up.

I have been to Norton Community several times because my family member works there. I live in Charlotte, and yes our hospitals are way better (that's because our city has more income) but NCH is not bad at all. If you can't put up with ER doctors sending you home after a few hours wait try to IMAGINE being in a city at least 20x bigger than Norton and having to wait half a day to be sent home. Every ER will sent you home or not look into it unless if you are literally dying in front of their faces. As for hygiene every hospital will have germs to an extent but if it were as bad as you all are making it out to be it would have been shut down ages ago. It angers me to hear people talk crap all the time about Doctor's, Nurses, X-ray techs, etc.. because they went through hell and back for their education to take care of YOUR asses. As for infections while in the hospital that falls on the patients immune system 90% of the time. PS the reason why there are so little doctors and nurses is because no one wants to come to Norton to work and live. I don't blame them..why get paid $110,000 a yr being a doctor in Norton when you could make $175,000 in Charlotte. Same reason why you guys are short on nurses..

I don't see why people like Norton Community. That is SWVA's worst hospital.

Well for one thing, the reason that there is such a long wait in the ER is because they are actually taking care of emergency cases before they see the people who are there for colds or nausea and vomiting. That is why it is called the Emergency Department. It is not meant to be used as a clinic. That is why insurances do not want you to use the ER for such symptoms because there is a large fee just for being seen and that doesn't count the lab work or medications that may be needed. I am a nurse and it really drives me crazy when a patient comes in to the ER at midnight and says I have been having pain for 3 weeks or I've been vomiting for three days or I've had a cough for 3 days. Why are you coming in to the ER now? You could have seen your own physician during those 3 weeks or 3 days. They "triage" cases so they can make sure the people who need to be in the ER are seen first. As far as cleanliness goes, I do agree with you on that issue but I think that needs to be addressed with the administrators who obviously do not inspect their hospitals.
MRSA is a bad bacteria. It all started with the use of so many antibiotics that were prescribed needlessly and enabled the bacteria strain to develop resistance to most antibiotics. I would say many people in the medical field are carriers but that is because we are exposed to people that we have no idea have the bacteria. Sometimes people have such weakened immune systems that they cannot fight off even the weakest germs and this is not the hospital or staff's fault. Who do you think are admitted to the hospital? People who are sick, people who have germs. These people walk around the hospital, their families visit and walk around the hospital so you can't expect a hospital to be totally responsible. Take a proactive stand and WASH YOUR HANDS several times when you are in a hospital. If you or a family member are ill with an infection then stay away as much as possible from public areas. It takes all of us to prevent the spread of infection, not only medical workers.
