Hugh Crawford does not deserve re-election. Since 2011, Rep. Crawford has been holding HB 4014 hostage in the House Regulatory Reform Committee, which he chairs. This bill would license home inspectors, requiring them to have clear criminal records and meet certain minimum standards of practice. This bill is opposed by the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), fearing their membership would drop, and the Michigan Association of Realtors (MAR), who fears loss of control of the home inspector by realtors. Now comes Joseph "Joel" Ward, a home inspector in south-central Michigan. Mr. Ward this year plead guilty to felony theft. Yet Mr. Ward continues to work as a home inspector, entering the homes of unsuspecting sellers unsupervised. With no licensing requirements, and no law preventing Mr. Ward, a convicted felon, from entering homes unsupervised. He is free to do so, and continues to act in whatever fashion he desires - law abiding or not. Hugh Crawford has put politics above the safety and welfare of the citizens of the 38th district, and he does not deserve re-election on November 6th.
