I did, very curious to hear what it was. Apparently, there was a bright light in the southern sky, behind the hills between shoup and topanga. My mother-in-law was watching it as it happened, but she couldn't tell me anything more specific.

One of my neighbors was out with her dog at the time it boomed. She later asked the police and they said it was a fire cracker. It must have been a very powerful one because we saw a flash of light simultaniously. It seemed like it started at the top of McFarland around Cass (San Feliciano area)and was shot or catapulted in some manner towards the north.

I live at Cass and MacFarland and heard the explosion. It seems hard to believe it was a fire cracker. I was sure that something blew up but never heard a siren. No police, no fire dept. Still wondering what it actually was. Does anyone have a better explanation than a firecracker?

Another loud explosion occurred Aug. 10, at 11:30, with a flash in the southern sky. What's going on here in Woodland Hills?

Did anyone report this to the police? I didn't because a short while after the blast, I saw a helicopter in the sky with its searchlight on and looking around west of Platt Avenue.

I was driving on Fallbrook and Ventura. It happened right on the corner. I thought a fire hydrant exploded in flames. I didn't call the cops cuz I saw pedestrians on cell phones

It just happened again in Woodland Hills. A loud blast and the sky light up a brilliant blue/green. What the heck was this? Can't be a transformer because we still have power ...

I did, it was by the elcamino shopping center... sound like bombs more than firecrackers, kind of alarming, but after I didnt hear police sirens or anything, so must not have been that big of deal

I've been hearing these explosion type sounds here and there and 10 minutes ago it happened again. Has anyone figured out what the real deal is?

It happened again. I live at Burbank and Topanga right next to Denny's Restaurant. 3:57 am. This was the loudest boom I've heard since sonic boom in Palm Springs in 1998 when the Blackbird flew by. That's a totally different sound then what I flew outta bed too last night. Like a cat clawin' the ceiling.... Went outside to check in the middle of Burbank and there wasn't anyone around at all. Ran into the fire dept. today across the street as they were saving a person trapped in the elevator and of course they just came on shift and didn't know anything. I've heard guns and a lot of pyro but this was completely different. Wish I would've seen the sky now that I've read all the posts here. Been trippin out all day. 4 of my neighbors heard it too and it scared the crap outta my wife. It sounded like a building fell from 10,000 feet. I can still hear it. Oddly enough I decide to sleep with the window open last night for the first time in a year that we've been here.
