Anyone who needs mental pills is just that, "mental". We don't even know the long term effects of mental medication. We put people on medication and what happens... "columbine shootings". Those kids were on mental meds. Face it society, if you can't cure your problems with just opening your eyes and realizing your "F-d up in the head", then admit yourself into an asylum. However, that would mean all of the HR people would be commited, cry babies sitting on the couch being sad would be commited, and people who can't handle the truth would be commited. Life is just that "life", deal with it or 2 alternatives, suicide or commit yourself.

You really need to do some reading, I have had depression for about 10 years first I thought it was just me getting older and not being able to cope with things, but a very good friend told me I needed some help dealing with things, with the help of a very good doctor and some good meds I have a life again. You can not know how you feel, and you don't know why?I am on lexapro and I see a shrink once every two weeks. When I retired I lost my insurance the meds for one month cost $126.00 a month not a lot of people can afford that I do without other things to get them.
Most of the street people are some of the people who need this help. They give up and don't get any form of help, which makes the problem worst. This is whats wrong to most, people don't really care about there brothers in this world.

You hit it right on the head. We need to understand that mental illness is just that, an illness. I have been on meds for bi-polar disorder for about 8 years.
I'm one of the lucky ones that has medicaid. If I didn't I couldn't begin to pay for all the meds that I have to take. In all I take 8 different medications, for things other than bi-polar disorder.

Jim,

Don't feel bad. Look how much Mike throws around the word "committed" without bothering to spell it correctly.

Something tells me spelling is the least of his problems.

Let me explain this in a way that someone with your extremely low IQ can understand. There is no such thing as an "asylum" anymore. The only places we have for those most severe cases to go for long term care are state hospitals and the only mentally ill people admitted to those are criminals who have plead guilty by reason of insanity. So basically we care for the violent criminals (if they get caught) with severe mental disease/defects that cannot be controlled by medication but not the ones who have a clean record & are just looking for help. Brilliant country we live in....

Actually no - in most cases there are chemical imbalances that the medication helps to bring back into balance.

come and say that to my face!! I don't think me and my bottle of lithium would mind bringing your sorry a-s-s down a notch or two. then you can have yourself committed to the hospital and remain in traction for the rest of your pathetic ignorant life.

I did not read the article, but I can tell you from professional experience, these people need help.

There are so many mentally ill people out there, it blows my mind. If someone is mentally ill and is a danger to himself or others, all we can do in my job is take them into custody and take them to a hospital. Once there, they are seen by a psychiatrist and medicated. Then released. At this point, they do not take their medications and are later returned to the Hospital to do it all over again.

I am against government taking care of every (ok, just about all) problem, but for the certifiably mentally ill, someone needs to step in.
