So, as usual, those that have the ability to make money get nothing except to foot someone else's inability to make ends meet.

This is a stop gap measure an most likely won't solve any-buddy's mortgage woes. Too much money, about half, will be used for sumthin' other than helpin' the intended folks.

More money for Goodyear??? How much does Goodyear need? Mebbe sum-buddy should point out to council Goodyear's rise in profits.

{{{$1.06 million for property to build an animal shelter.}}}

This is rediculous. Iff'n these morons play their cards right, they could buy a piece of property, buildin' included, for $1 from the city hall hero.

$1 million is over the top. The county needs to keep in mind that the facility is for the destruction of strays. Let the animal rights activists spend the money to build pet recycin' facilities.

I'm paying two mortgages. I'd like some assistance, please.

I'm not eligible? Why?

Because I work? Because I'm fortunate enough to have a job? Because I've worked my ass off all my life to move up in position and pay?

Socialist bullcrap. If I ever lose my job, I guarantee you I'll sponge off this system as much as I can.

Why are people jealous of people that receive help. What is the point in whining. Be grateful that you can afford your house payment. Be happy for what you already have. Count your blessings that you have enough money to keep a roof over your head and food on the table.

At the rate we are paying taxes (and they keep asking for more), higher gas prices, higher utilities, and on and on, we the hard working middle class of America will also be in the poor house and then we can take advantage of the system that we paid for. This system isn't working is it? I'm seeing more truth to the idea of a consumption tax based society instead of income and property based tax system. Property taxes are an unfair way to finance public works. If we are to vote to increase our property taxes for anything, then at least they should only allow property owners to vote. The way it is now, it like a citizen of West Virginia being allowed to vote in Ohio (no offense to West Virginia at all intended).

90% of the people that get this are just thinking "sweet more free money"!! They will get caught up on their payments b/c of this "free money" then fall behind once again. Then another one of these "programs" will come out and repeat itself over and over again.

Dear Summit County Counsil, If your going to be ignorant enough to throw good money away, PLEASE, PLEASE make the payments to the mortgage companies directly. DO NOT be stupid enough to give the money directly to the irresponsible people that got caught in this predicament in the first place.

40% of the money for administration? Are you kidding me??? It will be very interesting to see just how these $5000 gifts will be distributed. Who do I have to know to get one?

And on the same day this article appears, the county wants us to vote an open-ended, multimillion dollar tax increase for a Metro bus system that is woefully underutilized already.

Coincidence?

<The county is setting aside $500,000 for the Foreclosure Prevention and Rescue Program>

Where is this money coming from? The general fund??

This is a terrible idea, do these people get the money without having to pay it back?? What a worthless article without answering these two very simple questions..
Where does the BJ get their <cough> reporters..kindegarden???

Why would they give them cash??
Knowing DA#$ well that the money won't go to the banks holding the mortgage...it'll go to another tattoo or breast implants for the mrs, or some new lebron james tennis shoes..

You see, thats the whole point. By the time I pay my mortgage, my property taxes and everything else I'm taxed to death for so our great govt can pay someone elses bills, I CANT PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE. Can I get help? NO. Why you ask? Because I chose to work rather than sit on my lazy @ss and live off the hard working people.

If you add up everything they get for free or at a reduced price, I'll betcha their bringing home more than me.

Free or reduced rent
Free or reduced utlities
Food stamps and cash assistance
Free medical insurance
Free school lunches (cost me around $30.00 -$40.00 a week for my three kids)
Earned income for a hefty check around Feb/March of each year.

Unfortunately, your statements are true. My wife (who works two jobs - 60+ hrs a week as I do) worked with a girl from Akron who's single mom (never married) that decided to quit her job (was making $13/hr) because it was better for her financially to live off the system since it caters to those with children. She now lives at home full time with her kid and does better finacially living off food stamps and other benefits then she was working. This system rewards people for having kids they can't afford to raise. So, we the workers, are stuck with the tax burdens! This system is MESSED UP!

I happen to attend last evening's Council meeting for another matter but, I was listening to Mr. Zimmerman and his staff. I also took notes and, was provided w/a copy of both Resolution's,not just the one listed in the article.
I wasn't able to speak on this matter due to the rules but, I will tell you what I heard and give you my opinion of the whole thing.
1st, anyone can find Resolution #2008-067(identified in article) and Resolution @2008-068 on Summit County's website under 'Legislation'.
2nd, this program is a scam!
3rd, this program is being 'serviced' by AMHA's PRC program and, OWF per AMHA.
4th, the amount of $500,000 was the 1st Resolution to cover AMHA's Administrative services between 3/4/08-6/30/08.
5th, none of the $500,000 will go towards the 'customer/debtor's'.
6th, this AMHA PRC Resolution #2008-067 was for an amount not to exceed $500,000 but, OWF aka Ohio Works First Resolution #2008-068 was for an additonal amount of $542,962.00 for Administrative services.
7th, the funds are from a government grant and, the 2 Resolution's are actually a contract between Summit County Board of Control to AMHA and OWF, so that when both Resolutions' are passed, AMHA/OWF will be able to receive the funds from the grant.
8th, Scam part: Mr. Zimmerman's staff claimed that the program will require each participant receiving funds up to $5,000 to sign a 'lien' in the event the debtor/homeowner defaults on their original mortgage, in order to for AMHA/OWF to 'use' the pre-signed "lien agreement' by the debtor to bypass the Judicial process of obtaining a judgment/lien the way everyone else does in Court "as" AMHA's way of 'tracking' the defaulted debt?
9, no one can 'waive' a judicial process specifically, a lien.
10, this is a scam and County Council needs to wake up and seriously read the fine print.
11, neither Resolution should be passed and/or if for some reason they are then remove the clause to force a person to sign off/waive on a judgment lien issue, epsecially when AMHA knows that this process is illegal!
This is just my opinion?
