Speed Kills! On Highway [US-8] 8 running the traffic lights has made this highway a daily death trap always waiting to pounce. This tragedy should have happened. It's time to improve this road and improve law enforcement to stop these accidents from happening.
I try to avoid driving Highway 8 whenever possible for these reasons. |

Sorry for the typo.

1 The article did not say the vehicle was speeding. It was traveling at "highway speeds", meaning 55 mph, which happens to be the speed limit on Hwy. 8 except when passing through Chisago City and Lindstrom. The accident was caused by the person not braking for the light and stopped traffic, not speeding. Highway 8 is, and always has been, the deadliest stretch of road in Minnesota. They've widened it, and added rumble strips to both the shoulders and center line, but that's just not enough. |

1 So how many people lost a vehicle and got hurt and killed to due this distracted driver?? Bet he didn't even get a ticket, doesn't have Insurance, no license, and probably driving someone else's vehicle. You will criticize me for this but I am guessing he was under 25 too. This is the future of the roads. It will happen every day. Even the drunks won't kill as many as the talkers and texters. |

1 Attention all politicians. If you vote to take road tax funds and, rather than build safer roads with interchanges and turning lanes, you create mass transit boondoggles. please go to her funeral. Highway 8 has needed work and upgrades for decades - it's one of the deadliest in the State. MDOT has known about it and has multiple upgrades proposed. Appropriating road funds and shifting them to bike trails and mass transit projects is akin to accepting crash fatalities like these. The practice is unacceptable, in fact it's deadly, and it should stop. |

Oxboro; The driver who actually caused the accident wasn't paying attention to the environment in front of him. In other words, he just maybe saw the light and not the vehicles who were in his lane. This is another case/example of a driver running the light even though it was probably in his favor. Speed Kills! It holds true here!!! gtV |

TiVo Girl; You are partially correct about but in legal terms, statutes, case law, and case precedence the driver can be construed as speeding "for existing conditions" and not providing a 'safe assured distance' to prevent the incident! Without a doubt, I agree with you, US Highway 8 in MN is a death trap waiting to pounce its dangers. Drivers Beware. gtV |
