I contracted services at K.H. Kim's Tae Kwon Do/Oriental Arts Training Center at the beginning of April 2009 for my two boys who had already achieved a advanced level belt (ages 7 & 8). Payments ($155.00 each/$310.00 a month) would be scheduled monthly in exchange for Martial Arts Training. While there was a schedule of classes, there was NOT a schedule of instructors who might be teaching particular classes. One of the instructors in particular had weak to no skills of instruction nor could he muster the enthusiasm in order to teach the classes. The instruction was poor and this school which claims to have a superior curriculum.
Around mid June I had to have a conversation with one of the instructors (Master Karlov) at which time I pointed out my concerns as to the poor class curriculum. There was a very abusive nature of several older (teen-aged) blackbelts toward the lower and most times younger black belts. There were black belts (students) yelling at my children. The final incident which convinced me to terminate contract was when my 8-year-old son was physically shoved from the drinking fountain while taking a drink by a black belt named Edward. There was a definate theme of tyranny and lack of respect among several of the black belts. One of the main principles of Tae Kwon Do is the path of development to wisdom, respect and leadership. I sent a letter to K.H. Kim's July 15, 2009 outlining everything that had taken place and advising we would be withdrawing our contract due to the aforementioned reasons. My husband spoke with Master Karlov the first week in August at which time Master Karlov told my husband that he would need to speak with K.H. Kim. My husband asked that he leave a message for K.H. Kim to please call him. K.H. Kim never called back. My husband phoned again mid August at which time he spoke with K.H. Kim again letting him know we would be cancelling the contract due to abusive physical tactics by thier black belts. K.H. Kim stated he would not cancel the contract. I am filing this complaint due to the refusal of K.H. Kim to cancel a contract of services due to failure to honor the delivery of services promised and the physcial abusive of black belts. K. H. Kim has continued to bill for services not delivered. All I want is the contract cancelled as of mid July with charges paid as of June 17th being the final payment for services. There is no excuse for the abusive nature of older black belt students being tolerated. I have not thought about legal action although I will have to think again if K.H. Kim continues to refuse to address the situation. |
