I am very sad to hear the negative comments coming from the community about MASD. Families are proud to say not only did I graduate from Mckeesport...but my mother, father, grandmother, brothers, etc. The diversity makes you a stonger more confident person going out into the workforce. You realize everyone is different in many different ways. Many different social classes, different races, different family values, different religions, different likes of music, theatre, sports. You are exposed to it all. This is where you start to spread your wings and make choices. You make friends of many backgrounds. Your exposed to different ways of teachings from the teachers. You have many opportunities. Life is all about choices. Make good choices and you will be rewarded...bad choices get you to bad places. I dont understand how changing the name of a school could improve test scores? Could buying a home in Norwin school district really give your children a better education? I believe every school district is faced with the same problems. The difference is McKeesport lists theirs in the paper. Yes, there are problems. But why not address all the positives? Next time your faced with a couple not wanting to buy in our district because of the rumors they have heard...why not tell them something positive that happened? Our tests scores are not down because we have dumb students... its seems down because all our children who are mainsteamed are included. Our kids treat these kids like friends. They high five them in the halls, they talk to them, they include them. Wouldnt you want that for your child if you were faced with a mentally challenged child? I could go on and on. I am proud of where Im from. Proud of who I turned out to be. Proud to see my children on the same football field or same stage doing their activities. They are getting a FANTASTIC education..not only in books...but in life.

Its' the police that ruin the name of city, not the Schools. Its the police that supoported Hose and knew of his kidnaping as they were pointed straight to him by Mrs. Sokol, spoke to Hose himself, ad found him of they're own wrong opinion to be innocent, was he in hinsdight, all evidence given? Fact is, there is predjudice as to whose kids are whose, and theres a lot of racial predjudice existent. There are positives, but when you do not part your hair the way some of the mckeesport officials would like, you are not accepted, you did not experience that, you grew up here and see nothing wrong. Take a look from the outside in, and see how welcoming some are to anyone from someplace else, such as from any of the other borroughs or Pittsburgh area cities. Someone aparently made a rumor to hide the real legitimate reason of name changing from mckeesport, and has nothing to do with test scores! Actuall, it has to do with how the city is run, and how it has a extensive abuse of Government money. In actuality, it is the abuse of government money, and the fact of most of the city offials being either relatedto one another, or politically tied in to one another which is heralded many times by the Tube City online web site that will open your eyes to very much. And does also say many positives about Mckeesport, there is nothing wrong with Go Tigers for instance, thats all good, the students can excel. Its the politics behind the scenes ruining mckeesport in actuality, not the schools in 100% agreement on that issue on your behalf.

Excerpt From Tube City Online
I have no doubt that Kucich will do a good job, but considering his stormy relationship with the new mayor of McKeesport, James Brewster, I have to wonder if he's the most politically appropriate choice. Here's hoping they can set aside their differences and work together to make the McKeesport and Duquesne riverfronts as vibrant as the Homestead and Munhall riverfronts --- with the caveat that I'd like to see more light industrial and corporate uses, rather than the low-paying retail jobs that "The Waterfront" features.

Scare tactics and false behaviors of officials are actually at question, try goingtospeak to some on any issues or concerns you may have. If it isn't in agreement with they're opinion you will find yourself in a whirlwind of trouble or simply ignored: stone walled as inprevious cases dealing between the ACLU vs. Mckeesport and rights for the very disabled whom had to fight vogorously with Mckeesport on rights of access which were all ignored until a legal case ensued.

The lists goes on, answer: it is the politics.

(At McKeesport, PA. Barrack Obama speech)

There is a sweeping black prejudice when a black witnessed at an Obama speech in McKeesport could call a white woman whom was sick after waiting for a late Obama by almost 2 hours in McKeesport.

She stated excuse me, he stated she did not say it correctly, she told him she was very tired, out of breath almost and please let me through to go down the bleachers.

She stated she needed to leave, and he argued with her about her timing for saying excuse me from her, he yelled you racist bitch when she stated nothing of racism, color or any subject matter of the sort. The entire area of the bleachers said nothing to him for his very poor behavior, and seemed to sit with pride on his behalf. He smiled and was happy for calling her a "you racist b***h!" as she walked away with her child or grandchild in tow with her, whom was quiet on during the entire ordeal wanting to merely leave for over waiting to long for Obama to appear! Most people were there since before 4pm,and Obama did not appear until near 8pm without any reason for the delay told to any in audience.

They all pointed to him several times, probably 20 or more fingers to ask Obama a question and in want of Obama to ask him a question which seemed to be in praise of his nasty deed rather than reprimand! Obama seen, but called on someone more respectfully with a Chicago White Sox hat! Thank God! That boy was not called on to inflate his ego and poor behavior to a woman witnessed as only friendly to everyone!

Obama did enter by the door where they were on the bleachers, and perhaps did not desire to bring the issue to light, but if so is to be respected for not supporting racism on the black boys behalf against a white friendly woman, whom showed compassion and caring concern for others earlier!

-Freedom

P.S. Appears many blacks are voting for Obama because he is only black, but Obama does not want people to vote for anyone based on race, but issues which I am in total agreement! But what of all the people voting for him only because they themselves are black! Do they err in knowing his mother is white? God Bless.

And people call me crazy when I say racism is alive an well in McKeesport....

Priceless.

FOlks continue to spew hatred and prejudice behind anonymous names.

McKeesport has a LOT of good people of all colors and creeds.

We have problems. Racism is a two way street. We need to educate our people and our children better that they should judge people by their character and their actions rather than the color of their skin.

FOlks in Fox Chappel, Mt. Lebanon, Sewickley and Upper St. Clair "
got it" on election day and Senator Obama won there.

He didn't fair as well in Haler Heights or White Oak.

What does that tell you?

Me, I'll stay right here and raise my family in the 7th Ward where people are people and we belong. You don't have to look to find me. I'm right on Versailles Avenue with the Obama signs in my yard, where they will stay at least until November when my "homie" becomes President of these United States of America.

Racists are like Republicans, they tell a "beautiful" lie often enough that folks begin to believe them.

DO not let them fool you too! Their ignorance speaks louder than their words.

ill say this all colored people are not bad maybe 99 out of 100 are but not all of them. but sometimes i wander if they have a racial commitment to crime because look at the crawford crips and the bloods on the hill. mostly black on black gang violence. what do the mckeesport police do about it? RUN THE OTHER WAY COWARDS. but when a little white boy comes around flashy they think its fun to mess with him because hes white and think of him as no harm. but the homies they run like cowards.

wmowo,

Young man, that is WAY over the top. I can site you hundreds or more McKeesport african-american citizens who are great people and pillars of the community.

Every bushel has a few bad apples. White, Black, Green or Red.

Gangs are a MAJOR problem in mckeesport right now. never see that in the Daily news. In the past year, my son and one of my 14 year old basketball players have been held up at gunpoint.

Our police did a fine job of coralling both perpetrators.

its a shame but it seems like this election process with Mr Obama running has brought out racism that I reallly had not heard or seen in years..........
And excuse me, but all republicans are not liars, just as all democrats are not baby killers (pro-abortion) You can not group everyone under one word

guest, you are right on both points. obama coming to western pa did bring out the worst in some folks and bring racism back in plane sight.

i don't classigy all republicans as liars either. most republicans and democrats in western pa in particular are not far apart. we are typically fairly conservative here, at least on social and gun isssues.

on the big screen however, the national election and faux news, lying and propoganda are prevalent.

cases in point:

1) Iraq involved with 9/11
2) Swiftboating
3)(inset name of democrat) "will take your guns away", will murder your babies",
4) WMD's
5) Mission Accomplished
6) "Rebublicans are for smaller Government"

Unfortunately, in the lastest Primary season, I see the media and Madam Clinton's campaign appealling to the same lowest common denominator issues. Wedge issues meant to delude and confuse and inspire hatred among the masses.

You'd think people would be smarter than falling for this stuff but GWB beat McCain, Gore (well OK, maybe he didn't beat Gore) and Kerry, all better men and leaders than he due to Karl Rove's deceptions.

This is one reason I am supporting Obama. How many negative adds has his campaign put out?

He offers politics of respect, togetherness and civility.

THis guy has proven he can cross the aisle and work with folks. Senator Clinton, despite all her experience, can not make the same claim. She is a ramrod for divisiveness in my eyes.

48% of people polled befroe the primary season said they would never vote for her under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

If I were Johnny Mac, I'd want to run against her to.

Discussing McCain, I laugh that the neo-conservatives hate him. He has more character than any republican elected since TR.

I stll hold out hope for McKeesport and the Mon Valey.

Had the Mon Fayette Expressway come through 40 years ago, before it was blocked by a few indivduals and special interests, or pight wouldn't be what it is.

Our location is still ideal for manufacturing and business but we aremissing one leg, highway access.

In addition, elected officials such as myself need to seriously look at making our taxes more business and citizen friendly.

We need to encourage more home and business ownership here any way we can.

Paul did the police capture the defendants in this case on the spot or were they caught later as a result of the report that your son filed ? I also wondered did the police find the weapon in question ? Please answer this question honestly because I am very aware of the details of this case.

Let me start by saying I only answer honestly. I know where you are going with this. I also always give credit where credit is due. I aslo know that you only know the "facts" that your chain of command want you to know, and how they want you to know them.

In my son's case, I believe they were caught days later. I remember that me, the Mayor and many police circled the neighborhood for days to keep it safe. I believe there were a bunch of kids, staying illegally in a section 8 house.

When one of my players was held up at gun point. Our police caught the perp that evening. I know because i went down to the station to give our police his name and they already had him in custody on other gun and drug related charges. Unfortunately, the perp was a kid himself. Was a running back on our 2005 state championship team. We, as a city, and as a community, failed him just as much as he failed us.

Stopping kids from killing kids in Mckeesport while adults prosper from the drug trade is my driving factor.

I am NOT waiting until I'm mayor to take positive action in that regard. I coach and mentor kids all the time and report suspicious activity to our police all the time.

It's well documented.

All facts.

Go ahead. Bash me. Can't wait to hear this...

Peace.

Not from 5th ave. and not nervous. I see as usual you never answered the question and please save the "POLITICAL" terminology that we failed him. How did we fail him ? Once again I will ask you the question If the perp was caught days later then obviously they had to take your son's word on the charges correct? So what makes that case any different from Eddie giving a report and you being picked up ? You have criticized the city as well as the police for the incident with Eddie but when the shoe is on the other foot and your son was the victim why is it ok for the accussed to be picked up based on one's word ? I already know the answer and so do you Paul !

Paul is taking the day off from posting in honor of Roberta Harrigan's passing. I suggest you show some modicum of class and do the same. I'm sure he'll refute your illogical accusations when he's back online in a few. And there you go bringing Paul's family into things again. Get a life! You comparing a 12 year old get accosted by gangsters to an honest man being accused by a felon? Yeah, that's a credible arguement. Have you no class?
You are not a good person.

For the record, Paul has never publicly critisized the PD's handling of his case. If he did, in writing, I'm from Missourri, SHOW ME! You can't. Your bluff has been called and you need to crawl back in your hole at City Hall, lick your wounds and ask jim jim to throw you another "golden" nugget of information like that last one. If I remember correctly, and I do, Paul called the PD's handling of his arrest as "professional" and even gave the sleepy headed officer a pass for not showing up.. "Our Police work hard in Mckeesport, the kid worked overtime, slept in, it happens." Wanna see the clip from WTAE? I'm sure it, like Sluggo, won't be hard to find.

My friend Paul is calm, cool and collected. A regular "Cool Hand Paul" Ice water in his veins. Maybe if little jimmy had 1/2 of Paul's composure, smarts, or character, he wouldn't be in the 30's with his approval rating like his hero George W. Bush. Two of a kind. Cowboys. Empty "Suits". Secretive. Crooked. Mistrusted. Worst President and Worst mayor ever.

Now you were saying?

B.
