And now we will watch the entire region fall to pieces. But, what if it actually survives? Are the county police next? How about the shadow police force at PAT? How about the schools and their shadow police force? Lots of places to look, lots. HOw about the section 8 inspectors?

C'mon taxpayers, let's make a list.

Well lets see, if the union was so interested in its membership's well being, and not about money,( dues they will lose because of layoffs, closures, and cutbacks ect.) They would have tried to curtail this problem a long time ago. Letting Lenzer take over some routes is the start of something better,( they don't have the expense of paying for thousands of retired employees health care costs for them and their families not to mention the generous pensions.) So local 85 try helping the people, both your members and the public riders, and work for both, its better than closing all together.

It's about time!!! Bring the PAT to their knees!! The game is over and so is the port authority as we know it. The priced themselves right out of the game. No hard feelings, but it was destiny!

Its not the drivers and mechanics taking PAT broke its the people who retire and rehired as Consultants at 100 grand a year. The free cars for the Executives. I could go on. Its not port authority's fault that the state won't match the drink tax. A lot of families from all will be affected by this. From the employees to the riders who depend on transportation to get to there jobs. Why in the world would anyone wish unemployment to anybody ? Keep fighting the fight PAT. Keep the union alive. When its gone you have nothing!

Can't agree with you here. Retirement in 20 years, with health care until Medicare kicks in for them? The average age of a PAT retiree is 55 y.o., and that's NOT their age at retirement, but the average age of the entire pool of retirees. That's ridiculous because it it so incredibly unsustainable. Not only are these legacy costs crippling, but PAT wages are significantly above other comparable transit systems, even Philly, with significantly higher costs of living.

And the fault lies equally with PAT union greed and absolutely stunning PAT management incompetence over the years. I strongly believe in workers' right to form unions and bargain collectively, but the PAT union's greed is and has long been unconsionable. They exceed the avarice of even teachers' unions in this region. These kind of abuses call into question the need to examine the collective bargaining laws in the public sector in PA to reign in these kinds of unsupportable outcomes.
