Um I do work as something other than a waitress, but I wanted to go back for my bachelor's degree and waitressing affords me the time to do that. And yes, people make fun of people. Yes, servers make fun of those that don't tip. We also laugh at those people that order a steak medium rare, then get pissed when it comes out and is pink. You are a jerk. And my kids have known for years to tip those that serve you, even before I worked as a server. So I hope I do wait on you someday. And I hope I just give you the service you pay for which is putting in your order, bringing you your drink and delivering your food to you. Because that is all you pay for. If you want a refill, you better hope I have time since I will be working my ass off for those that I know leave a tip and leave a good tip for excellent service. Then again, I see you are from Grundy, VA, so that really does explain a lot. Oh and for the service you pay for....that doesn't include refills. Refills are a service that waitresses do as a courtesy. Many places don't offer unlimited refills. Where I work, we are supposed to charge for refills on certain drinks. As a courtesy to my guests, I don't charge them. But I hope if you ever come into my place of business you let me know that you are an uneducated, backwoods idiot that doesn't understand the accepted rules of society and how things work, so that I will be sure to charge you for your refills you get.

Trust me ABCDEFG, your childish laughter at me will be unheard and ignored because you are not in my league and never will be. Just so you know, had you planned your life and not gotten pregnant in the back seat of a car, you wouldn't be in the situation you are in chastising the rest of us for not tipping. The way it typically works for those of us who have graduate degrees and good jobs is this:

1) Graduate High School without becoming pregnant first
2) Go to a four year college where you might have to work for tips, but at that point you will understand tipping is NOT required
3) When you get your Bachelor's degree, get a real job in the real world and realize there's more to life than the hills of Tazewell County or where ever you live and that Jim Bob is not who you want to be with no matter how good the sex is.
4) Once you have established your independence and need no one, you can then determine if you would like to have kids and if so choose a good solid relationship with someone who has an education and a good stable job with benefits, not someone who relies on you to make the living and beg for tips.
5) Get a graduate degree because Bachelor's degrees are no better than GED's now days.

Hope this helps, and no tip for you.

You must be one of those cheap a$$ teachers who sets at a desk 5 hours a day 190 days a year and thinks you are under paid and over worked.

that comes from someone whom makes $2.13 an hour, acts like a child cause they are suffering their choices in life. The saddest part of all this is that you are actually in charge of others lives, yet sit on topix begging for a tip. Cause of your choices you freely made. PATHETIC.

I'm not begging for them. I can care less if you do tip me, but I'm saying it is socially acceptable. Now here is how I did things. I graduated high school (Tazewell High School in the top 10% of my class). Went to college where I met my future husband. After graduation we got married. I worked at the hospital for a while with my associates degree and we decided to start a family. My children are now in college themselves and I realized I could make more money in my job at the hospital if I went back and got my bachelor's degree. However, the hospital would not work with my school schedule. Partially because they know once I get that degree, my pay will have to be increased by at least $5/hour. So I figured it was a good time to take a break from the hospital, go back to school and get my bachelor's degree. However, I still have to pay for stuff my kids need while they are off at college (one is pre-med in Blacksburg at VT, the other forensics at JMU). My husband does have a good job and makes fairly good money for this area. Just after so many years of having a certain amount of income, my not working at all was a little tough, so I decided to find a job that was flexible with my school hours and made some extra money. I found that in waiting tables. That extra money I make goes to my kids at college so they don't have to work while trying to study. I'm still able to provide for them so they don't have to work and go to school. My education level, even with an associates degree is probably much higher than yours. And the bachelor's degree I'm working on now is actually just a precursor to my master's degree, then a PhD. So yes, I am in my 40's and going back to school, but many people do that. Oh and if you ever eat in my restaurant and have a heart attack, or choke or have an allergic reaction and need medical attention, I can save your life. Whether you tip me or not. Oh and while working in the hospital, I've had families of patients try to "tip" me for taking care of mom or dad. Difference is, in that setting I'm not allowed to accept them. Oh and when I finish with all my degrees, I will be making around $35/hour around here...and if I move away from this area, it will be closer to $50/hour. Waiting tables is just an interesting way to make some money while working towards that final goal. And if you are a nice and interesting person that is enjoyable to take care of, I really don't care if you tip. If you are an ass to the servers, make your order as complicated as possible, then complain if it's wrong and then don't tip, well then you are the type we wish would just stay home. You make an otherwise nice day turn to crap. Now, I am done with you and this whole topic. And for the record, as far as this whole thread started with Sonic....I see no reason for them to not make actual minimum wage...but I have left tips there before but never 15%. Usually if my order comes to $17 something and I pay with a $20 I will tell them to keep the change. Oh and as a server and as a customer I will say this to all servers. Never ask a guest if they want change. Always assume they do. You come off as desperate and annoying if you ask "would you like change?" If I'm paying with a $50 on a $30 check and you ask if I want change.....No you don't get a $20 tip. Give the guest the option as to whether or not they want to tip you.

I still say you are getting screwed by your employer, check with the Department of Labor to confirm it. You are guaranteed minimum wage, even if you tips do not bring it up to that. If they don't, your employer owes you the difference between what the tips plus his $2.13 an hour add up to.

But its seems that you would rather bitch and complain here and alienate people, instead of checking your rights.

Good Luck!

you really let this "truth" idiot get under your skin. This is way too much information. The truth is, "turth" is just a cheap a$$ and nothing said will change that. Those of us who have morals and know how to like will tip and tip well, fool like "truth" will always be a tight as$.

Laughs at you, apparently you only read what you want to see, go back and read all of what I have said.
Probably just another name made up like ABCDEFG, and the same person

If you look, and actually read how the two people are typing and where they are from you can easily tell it's not the same person. Now I do think that not making minimum at Sonic is silly. And I have never tipped there and probably will never tip there. When I go to a nice sit down place, I will tip, as long as I get good service. I know I don't have to tip, but I think it is the courteous thing to do. I can see both sides of the argument. I do thing ABCDEFG is being screwed over by her job. I also thing people that do that type of work, work their tails off for people like us. Maybe we should all just be more tolerant of those around us, whether they are waiting on us, or insulting us on topix.
