I took a family member to Bluefield Regional tonight.....BIG mistake!!! I'm not formally educated in the medical field just basic knowledge from being a Mom, but I have to say I believe its more knowledge than the stupid ER dr. on call tonight!!!!(Dr. "idiot" Elliott)

My loved one was taken in for a temp of 103 (this has been temp 2 days WITH advil), bad headache, stiff neck, achy, diarrhea, and nausea. Ok this so called dr. didn't do ANY BLOOD WORK or FLU test....NOTHING BUT LOOK AT PATIENT!!! He diagnosed patient with diarrhea (well duh!!!) and a viral syndrome (virus). Well the viral syndrome info sheet he gave us said that it cannot be treated with antibiotics, guess what he prescribed....antibiotics!!!! What if this is the flu, tamiflu is whats needed!!!
Another info sheet states that contact dr. if:
fever exceeds 102...well we are home and after more med for fever its over that STILL!!
foul-smelling stool....(ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?!?!?!?Does your shit not stink Dr Elliott???

This was the biggest waste of time and $!!!! I can draw me a Dr degree and hang it on the wall and DO A BETTER JOB!!!!!!!

Actually, if it IS the flu, tamiflu is not "needed". It does nothing more than aid in suppressing the flu symptoms...and with your hand drawn doctorate degree, you should know that. And if it is in fact the flu that your loved one has, it is a virus and all anyone can do is treat the symptoms. Also, You should not be simply giving your loved one adviI for their fever - you should be alternating it with Tylenol.

Oh, also flu wouldn't be determined with bloodwork...it would have been a nasal swab..

Elliott is a fantastic doctor, and I have no doubt whatever treatment plan he came up with for your family member will help...but if you think you know so much, why did you even seek medical attention? You should just open your own clinic.

Draw that motha fu c ka!!!:-)

I have found Dr. Elliot to be a very good emergency room doctor. If he thinks you need it he will not hesitate to run tests and find out what's going on . There is a virus going around with all the symptoms the first poster described. All you can do is try to ease the symptoms and wait it out. As for Tamiflu, I've been prescribed that before and I would have been better off spending my money on a bag of M & M's for all the good it did.

A couple of months ago I lost my beloved husband at BRMC. His attending doctor was Dr. Elliot. He and his staff moved heaven and earth to try and save my husband. Some staff members even stayed late to keep working on him. I lost him twice and Dr. Elliot brought him back to me both times. When Dr. Elliot read the test results and realized that my husband was not going to make it, he and his staff did everything possible to make him comfortable and gave me as much support as they could. He kept me updated the entire night as the test results came back and when he had to tell me that I was going to lose my husband, he broke the news to me as gently as he could. When my husband passed away for the last time, Dr. Elliot stayed and cried with me. I will be forever thankful that Dr. Elliot and his staff were there that night. They held my hand thru the most horrible night of my life and I will never be able to thank them enough. Those people are very special to me!

Well, the flu is viral. It can't be treated with antibiotics, but antibiotics are sometimes given to treat any secondary infections, and even if it is Just a virus...with a temp of 103, you should be thankful antibiotics were given in case they may have a secondary infection. Tamiflu isn't really needed if it is the flu. Nasal swab would have diagnosed the flu, but treatment would have been the same.

It is sad that this vet that some call a hospital is all this area has. As for Dr. elliott, I think he is a good Dr. It is the fact that people get sick that BRMC is in business. Some care and know what they are.doing, some simply dont. We need a nice hospital like Bristol Wake Forest or Roanoke. If you have so,ething serious, you will die here. What I really question is they are improvin the hospital with what? Hiring the same no good physicians tjat were run off before. Staff still treated like crap. Cheaper to go.to a bigger nicer hospital where you have a fighting as a patient. I blame medicaid for a lot of it. Just keep out hope for our community to get.some big changes.

You know it doesn't matter what hospital you go to. Most of the time you will basically get the same treatment. If we had a hospital such as the larger hospitals I am 90% sure that someone would be on here talking trash just like the example above. If you guys want to make a change and hope for bigger and better things in your local hospitals then why in the world do you not support your community and put the work into it. I would like to see at least one person who fusses, and moans and groans about how they were treated badly and how they weren't given the treatment they thought they deserved and needed get up off your high horse and walk a day in a healthcare personal's shoes. I PROMISE you after you have been cussed at, spit on, hit, punched, given the evil eye, and put down as much as some get, get told that you aren't doing your job, and the only thing that you as the person who is receiving this is abuse is to look at you and smile and say I understand your concern and I am sorry let me see what I can do for you. You may change your tune and may think the next time before you speak and make yourself look like a jackass. I am sick and tired of always hearing how BRMC, CVMC, TCH, PCH and any other small area hospitals just aren't good enough. Well you know what? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! It is beyond me as to why some people just want to keep coming back after they have been treated "so bad." Get a grip!!! I think if that is the case then you know what buy a box of band aides and patch it yourself. Don't waste the doctor's and staff time and even your family members time with stupid crap like that! Before you get on here and whine about how nothing was done take a step back and look there are other places you can go such as Roanoke, Bristol, Charleston. Go there and then when you are not treated as you should be get on here and run your mouth about those places. The public who are so critcal to judge these people who work their butt off all the time to help make you feel better really need to work a good full week in a hospital and then maybe you wouldn't be so whiney and boo hoo about how you weren't treated.

Dr Elliott is awesome, BRMC ER is great. The people who are supportive of the hospital are great, the others can take their whiney a$$ to PCH or Bristol! How are you supposed to entice experienced brilliant Dr's to this area? Get a life! We are lucky to have the great Dr's we have in this area, and most have ties in this area is why they are here! The original poster hopefully will utilize Medexpress and when they need a real Dr and has to be sent to the hospital, I hope they refused to go to BRMC because they have a good hospital, good Dr's, now they need good patients!

Dr Elliot is a great doctor but the hospital is really not run well and the floors are really nasty. The nurses run around like they are in a circus and have no sense of what is and emergency or what is not. All they want to do is act like they are the important ones that work there. They need to have someone after hours come in and see how things go on after hours.

THE. TRUTH.....BRMC is a privately owned hospital, fact, if you have insurance they are to treat to utmost, if not they are to treat symptoms and release you with referral, fact!! It doesn't mean Dr's are bad ,just that they are bound by hospital policy.....can't say how I know this but I do know it's fact.....

If you don't have insurance or good insurance, give to Princeton, it isn't privately owned and they have to treat insurance or not... the Dr there actually can't even see if or what kind of insurance you have, BRMC. Used to be same until they were bought out.

There was patient I happened to know that went to bluefield very ill... they sent him home with meds for infection, he told them he had two strokes, and that he was on pain meds, he needed he could barely walk... the only procedure they did was chest X-ray and blood work... about 3 days after sending him home the police showed up and told him he needed to return to hospital immediately, when he arrived he was admitted and told they had missed an infection around his heart, but it was not an aggressive one, 5 days later he died, turned out the heart infection was the aggressive 1% of heart infections which an MRI....MRI with contrast etc would have shown but he didn't have good insurance so each day he got sicker until last two days he had to write, couldn't speak......

Anyway I would never be treated at bluebird, the Dr's are great but there hands are tied to big. Corporate policy, whereas a community hospital like many others Have to treat you... notice bluefield is bluefield isn't bluefield community hospital any longer.

Ever heard of emtala .... It means in the Ed or labor and delivery areas they can turn no one away for inability to pay without a medical screening and stabilization. Be thankful that you have a close place to go to seek treatment if and when needed. I do not live in your area but have had dealings with this facility and received wonderful care and would def use the facility again. Be thankful for your physicians and nurses and staff at all your hospitals. They work hard and will he there when you need them.
