methinks that if it were a white bear the officer would have taken his brethren's brother home for a couple beers instead of taking him out.

You and Kathy need to read the story, it was shot for everybody's safety, end of story. Black bear are not on the endangered list, there is actually a season on them, did you lame brains know that? It's rather amusing to people out of the city, when citiots try to weigh in on a subject they have seen on animal planet.

What the hecks wrong with us nowdays? Everytime we see a wild animal in town we kill it. I grew up with black bears and in general they are a nuisance but that is all.

Give me a break.

What a joke. As the city and suburban whimps sit at the table mailing out their checks to the National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, The Ely area International Wolf Center, or the Bear Center, and claim animals need their space too.....and then they get all upset when residents around northern Minnesota want to de-list the wolf because they are overpopulated, but say they want those animals protected.

Then the dopes shot one bear over nothing. They tell us to live with it, but will not do it themselves! GO FIGURE!

It`s OK to have wolves walk down the alleys of Ely and Winton, or have cougars in the yard or on your deck in Ely...... But not for you though!

What a joke.
