Companies move out of the US because labor is cheaper. That's the bottom line. All of this talk about taxes, unfriendly presidents is bs. I, for one, won't have any problem not buying 3M products in the future.

Rueben Rueben Rueben you should have taken more business classes when you were hugging trees in college. The President of 3M knows more about business than you and the entire white house combined. There is a reason why business is moving over seas and out of the USA. It's because of pinheads like you who keep on placing the burden of our country on them. People start a business to make money not to pay taxes. What's the point of starting a business when our world is full of Rubens that want to do nothing but soak of our government. Liberalism along with politacal correctness is totally blinding and making our world stupid. Just like you and followers.

As long as the Walmart shoppers of this country insist on low price goods, manufacturing will be done outside of the US. Even when you add the cost of shipping the stuff back from China, it's still cheaper than trying to make it here. Next time you are at the store, I dare you to try to find ONE item that is not stamped "MADE IN CHINA." You, the consumer, are the one supporting moving all of our manufacturing jobs out of the country. US manufacturing will recover only when the consumer is willing to PAY MORE for "Made in the USA." That is the reality today.

This guy will never understand. I'll have to explain it the way I would to a second grader. Businesses exist to make money. The goal is to make as much as possible. That will never change. Moralize, shake your finger, tsk-tsk all you want. US companies go overseas for labor for the same reason Mexican and Chinese companies don't: the price of labor. Until these people get it through their fat heads that only fools pay more for anything than they absolutely have to, there is no hope for them. Small businesses or large, it's all the same. And if the labor you need is unskilled, you don't pay $20 per hour for it if you can get it for $10. One easy way to drive wages up would be to stop the supply of cheap, illegal labor, which liberals never want to do. Then they complain about minimum wage being too low. That's the reason more people don't move their whole operation south of the border right now. If you don't want to move the company to the third world, you move the third world to your company. How about the other myth about illegals doing jobs Americans won't. Of course they won't if they have to do the job for what employers can get illegals to do it. This whole article is a thinly veiled sermon for wealth redistribution. The problem is that if these clowns get their way, no one will be rich, and everyone will be poor.

Liberals struggle. Period. They don't understand business, markets, or economics, and most other things. They don't understand business has to raise capital to operate, which means they have to make profits in order for investors to get a return on their investment. In order to make profit, you have to cut costs and maximize efficiency. It's not a choice, it's a requirement for those who want to survive. Employment is a bi-product of this activity. Their idiot friends have made it so difficult for companies to employee people in the US with their taxes and regulations, many are shipping jobs overseas. It's doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand this. This is why they love government. It creates zillions of fake jobs for their voters. The produce nothing of values, and are only a drag on the economy. The law of unintended consequences applies to almost everyting the socialists do. And the appropriatly named "Reub" will never get it.

Perhaps if you looked into it a little further you would find Europe has stronger unions, better healthcare and safety nets for its people as well. And when corporations get beyond the pale, European workers are in the streets and in the factories to stop the pillage.

Ahh, Ruben (sorry, my keyboard doesn't have the tilde over the e). True to form, true to form. Volunteerism is great. It's wonderful. But it does not put food on the volunteer's table. And neither do increased taxes. You bash big business because that is part of your job. So, that sour taste in your mouth is martyrdom. Sorry, bud.

Evangelizer - move back to high school where you belong...your writing and grammar is atrocious.

Ruben if it were not for companies like 3M, who would pay for your social services, welfare programs, and hand-outs? Please at least try and understand how the real world works before you comment.

So. If you worked hard today, and made $100, and $50 (oh wait, no $60, er $75) was taken to support other people because it is 'fair', since they did not work today. Fair to whom?

Reuben needs to get back to reality. 3M has created a massive amount of prosperity in Minnesota. If they were to move their operation , thousands of families would suffer. So, the lady wanted to donate her services to a charity hospital ship. That's her business. I spent years in third world countries doing public health work, on my own dollar, but that has nothing to do with jobs in America and the survival of an international conglomerate, base in the Twin Cities. Reuben is comparing Apples and Bananas to come up with his delusional assumptions. He needs to get a dose of reality. Lay him off.!

Better healthcare? Better unions? Obviously you have never been to Europe or spoken with a European regarding the long waiting list for simple check-ups or the poor quality of doctors since they lose money by becoming a doctor forcing the best and brightest to go into other occupations.

As for the unions, name me a European coutry that is known for its innovation. Can you do it? Highly unlikely since the unions have a stranglehold on businesses - 6 weeks vacation per year, the entire month of August the workforce is on holiday thereby shutting down productivity.

The titans of business walk away with tens of millions of dollars. We get to listen to them WHINE -- their interests are not aligned with the interests of Americans. If they refuse to act like it is their pleasure to take party in American business, well, here bub, you pathetic selfish clowns, we will make you. Next election -- watch out, greedy business types, you have gone too far.

According to the article 3M is non-union. When did that happen?
