The biker should have been cited for not yielding the right-of-way to a motor vehicle.

The car was in a traffic lane traveling a legal speed when the biker drove into its path. The person on the bike was NOT WALKING!

Not to worry the bikers hit by cars will not be riding again soon.

Will they learn from their accident?

They arn't brillant in the first place being hit so guess they might be hit again.

The title of this story is incorrect!

There is no way a horse will ever use the new bridge over 120 at 36!!

Also there has NEVER been horse on the gateway trail in North Saint Paul.

I haven't seen any work being done on the bridge in what seems like a month. Anyone know why that is?

No bikers using the Gateway in the rain.

Witnessed an injury accident in front of North High, between the Polar arena parking lot and the HS building. A biker crossed the bridge over 36 north bound and turned left and hit a patch of sand and took a digger. A bit of road rash on hands, elbows and knees.

So Wiger and Lillie get a $3,000,000 bridge built after no injuries occurred at 120 and 36. And yet the Gobernut cannot even get the sand swept up from last winter resulting in injuries to bikers.

The "Crosswalk" this biker was hit in was designed as a "Crosswalk" NOT for bike traffic.
IF it was designed for bike traffic it would have a sign with a bike on it warning of potential bike traffic!
It is called a "Crosswalk" because people crossing are WALKERS!!!!!
NOT BIKERS!!!!!
Minnesota Statute:
169.222 OPERATION OF BICYCLE.
....
(f) A person lawfully operating a bicycle on a sidewalk, or across a roadway or shoulder on a crosswalk, shall have all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances.

So what "applicable duty" does a pedestrian have while using a crosswalk?

A couple of things come to my mind: Make eye contact with motorists that might hit you before walking into a road. NEVER run into a street.

Having NO IDEA what lawmakers were thinking of when they allowed bikes to be ridden into a street in a crosswalk because there is NO WAY a bike should be ridden into the path of a car UNLESS first making sure the cars driver sees you.

The eye print of a pedestrian and biker is to small to assume a driver can see you. You can be hidden by a windshield post, side mirror, rearview mirror, junk hanging from a rearview mirror, etc etc.

IF someone rides into a street risking their life, so be it. He/she might be right, and dead right indeed!

IMHO legislators making it legal to ride a bike in a crosswalk were just plain DUMB!!!! I suspect Leon Lillie and Chuck Wiger had their hands in making this stupid law, ignorants.

Now they are talking a tunnel or bridge over Hadley at 36.

A very effective and inexpensive fix would be to move the trail so it crosses Hadley right next to 36 therefore controlling pedestrians and bikes with the stop light and not allowing them to cross Hadley at just any time.

This setup worked for many years at 36 and 120 with NEVER AN ACCIDENT!!

You are 100% correct but it is much to simple and inexpensive to be implemented. Chuck Wiger and Leon Lillie will demand a multimillion dollar bridge or tunnel.

Government is REALLY PHOCKED UP!!!

Dammer Chuck and Leon, WHAT A WASTE OF PHOCKING MONEY!!!

Meanwhile 40,000 vehicles use highway 36 EVERY DAY.

Government is REALLY PHOCKED UP!!!!!!

So the $3,000,000 bridge over 120 is used by ONE (1) idiot on a bike.

Swell just swell!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile 40,000 vehicles are stopped at 120 and 36 EACH AND EVERY DAY.

So how many gallons of $5/gallon gas are wasted EACH AND EVERY DAY? Not mention the fuel wasted by MnDOT cleaning the trail. And to top it off there are existing sidewalks that could be used by bikers and walkers.

Agree, Wiger and Lillie are Phocking IDIOTS!!!

A sign of spring, last saturday before the snowstorm, I saw a sign of spring.

NOT a Robbin but a jogger on the NEW $3,000,000 bridge over 120 at 36.

YES there was an actual user of the new expensive bridge...

HANG OUT THE FLAG!!!

I should notify Wiger and Lillie so they can declare a VICTORY and make a statement in the Lillie NEWS Rag to the effect the BRIDGE WORKS!!!

A success at last!!

Put a fork in it!!!

Well well, Senator Wiger is pimp-ing state trails. I wonder why. I would guess he's trying to get the trails used so he doesn't look so much like a buffoon. After all he is the one that HAD TO HAVE the $3,000,000 bridge built over 120 at 36.

And now there is no-one using the $3,000,000 fiasco. Wouldn't it be better to have a bridge over 36 at 120 so the 40,000 vehicles per day could keep moving instead of stopping at 120.

The Gateway trail is little used and a total waste of money.

Oh Wait, there was that ONE GUY jogging over 120 on the new $3,000,000 bridge.

Can any of you smell PORK?
