All over the news today. Two dozen people have drowned in MN in water accidents already this year. Surely this means that anyone who enters a watercraft or comes within 10 feet of the shore shouldn't do so without a Coast Guard-approved life vest. Who cares if you are a trained lifeguard or that some of those people should have been wearing life vests anyway based on the law? We have to protect these people!!!

There already are laws requiring Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices when using a boat on Minnesota waters. Children under 10 must wear them anytime the boat is in operation and there must be enough life vests on board for everyone in the boat. There is also a provision about having flotation throwing device but I don't recall the particulars of that part of the law.

We can start with banning boats and limiting people to wading depth,(if you're over 21) and shore fishing only.

But since people are still dying that obviously means we don't have enough laws, right? The woman in this story was required by law to wear a helmet and didn't, so folks seem to think that means that everyone else should wear one. Forget the fact she was on a road she wasn't even supposed to be on.

There are about 5x as many US deaths from falling in the shower every year vs. US motorcycle deaths. 15-20k die from falling in the shower vs. 3-4k motorcycle deaths.

Maybe we should advocate helmets in the shower.

Contrary to another posters ranting...not everyone showers. Some people choose to take baths. Some people alternate. So, helmets in the shower, life jackets in the bath, hot tub, jacuzzi, etc.

It goes beyond what she should have legally done. There is an old saying, "dress for the slide, and not the ride". Of course there is also another saying "leathers and helmet may not keep you alive, but at least you can have an open casket".

I don't agree that we need more laws. I think anyone, and I mean anyone, in a moving boat should be wearing a life jacket. I don't do much pleasure boating anymore but whenever I'm in a boat fishing I always wear a life vest. I also believe anyone with any brains would wear a hemet when riding a motorcycle, if only because of the idiots out there with cars that don't care if they see a motorcycle or not.

What she should be doing is asking why trucks are still doing using recap tires, i had one come apart in front of me and it took out my windshield and damage the front of my car, this is caused by under inflation, you will never see a driver with a tire gauge checking his trailer tires, as long as they have some air they donít give a shet. You see the remains of recap tires all over the interstate hi ways, this wasnít a freak accident it happens all over the country, especially out west where the temps are higher.
you can go past truckers. many of them do not have all the tires on. some are missing at least one tire due to it having blown own. just so they can get as fast to their next destination.
