Oh this totally makes sense to me. So you shake a child to death in a fit of rage and you get eight years in prison. You get into a car accident while sober and accidentally kill a family - you get eight years in prison. Yep, that's totally sensible. What do you want to bet the chances of recidivism are in an asshole that can't control his temper around a baby and a family man who got into a car accident? Which one will likely get out and be a fine functioning member of society, albeit one who has missed almost a decade with his family? Which one will likely end up alone with another woman's children when that woman uses deplorable judgment and leaves any old idiot to care for her kids? The jury was freaking deadlocked for this case, but had no problem convicting a Hmong man and sentencing him to an almost identical sentence. What am I missing here??
