In a perfect world this would not have occurred.

IF the perp wasn't waiting in ambush for whomever walked into the apartment it would not have occurred.

IF the officers knew a flaming towel would be thrown at them they would have warn protective clothing.

Stack up your own "IFs" but the event occurred causing a tragic outcome.

R. I. P. Hero Officer Crittenden!

Thanks Hero Officer Olson for dealing with the perp.

One thing for sure the perp WILL NOT be recycled by the crimminal justice system.

Sam, Yes Officer Crittenden and Olson were Heros.

It still does not answer the question as to why they increased there risk and the risk of the women by having them come in the apt at the same time.

My quess is that the OFP's are so meaningless now that their gaurd was down, not expecting anything serious to happen and that they were just going to have a talk. They didn't even have there guns drawn while they were entering the apt.

The perp was propably being denied his parenting time by a manipulative ex-wife and he finally got tired of it. But we don't know and this still does not excuss the perps behavior.

The OFP system needs serious overhaul. Not the "passing them out like candy system we have today"

Suspect you are right, the officers guard was down. The perp was visiting people the night before in the same building, seems like he was not an obvious risk to the officers or the wife.

Having guns drawn may be an option, unless it's against department policy, but neither officer thought it was needed. Police very seldom uncase their handguns I suppose doing that escalates the situation raising the risk. Maybe a better "Tool" to have drawn and ready would be a taser. However that would also escalate the situation as they look like a handgun. A drawn Taser would also complicate the situation by having the officers hands occupied with a Taser when they might need a handgun.

Don't know about OFPs, maybe they should result in an Order For Pistol instead of a piece of paper. IF women feel threatened let them defend themselves.
