MINNEAPOLIS (AP)- More than a third of school districts in Minnesota are planning to ask their voters for additional money this fall, the highest number since at least 2001.

A spokesman for the Minnesota School Boards Association, Greg Abbott, says 133 districts have said they will have levy elections in conjunction with city or county elections.

However, the number of school levies could still increase. He says there's a Sept. 16 registration deadline for districts planning solo elections.

Some GOP on Anti-School Levy Campaign in Minnesota

Updated: Monday, 12 Sep 2011, 11:40 AM CDT
Published : Monday, 12 Sep 2011, 11:38 AM CDT

ST. PAUL, Minn.- Some Minnesota Republican lawmakers plan an unprecedented campaign against school districts seeking voter-approved tax increases this fall.

State lawmakers traditionally stay out of local levy decisions, but Minnesota Public Radio News reports some Republicans are aiming to speak out against schools pleading poverty.

The chairman of the House Finance Committee, Rep. Patrick Garofalo, reminds districts that they just
received a boost in state funding, including another $50 per pupil.

The Farmington GOP'er said he will be very vocal about districts he says are abusing the process when it comes to levy votes. Garofalo expects other Republican to align with the campaign.

The latest information from the Minnesota School Boards Association shows nearly a third of Minnesota districts plan levy elections in November.

STEALING BY STEALTH...Vote NO LEVY November 8th 2011

Many states across the country have made it illegal to re-hire retired worker and collect pensions.

Written by the Association of American Educators -Alix

http://www.aaeteachers.org/index.php/blog/452...

With states across the country facing budget shortfalls and underfunded pensions, the concept of "double-dipping," or collecting both a state pension and salary has come under fire from various states seeking to rein in spending. From California to New York, many employees have been accused of unethically boosting their incomes by also taking a state pension, pushing certain state legislators to back state pension reform legislation.

In Minnesota, for example, there are nearly 9,000 beneficiaries of Minnesota's public retirement funds back on a public payroll or "double-dipping." While the concept is being debated, it makes sense for some small school districts looking to hire quality educators.

" he stressed. "It's a way of robbing the taxpayer by stealth." -Byron Schlomach of the Goldwater Institute

Last June, the superintendent in Redwood Falls, Minnesota retired after twenty years of service. Despite his retirement, Superintendent Rick Ellingworth returned to the same job the following year, collecting both a salary and pension. While he didn't receive a raise, the district board was committed to his re-hire. "We didn't really want to lose him," Board Member Tom Hollatz commented. "We have a more difficult time in rural Minnesota finding quality people."

While re-hiring an indispensable staff member may seem practical, pension experts argue it is not a good practice for the taxpaying public. Pension fund expert Byron Schlomach of the Goldwater Institute questions double-dipping. "It's sold as something that saves the taxpayers money, but the reality is taxpayers cover the whole thing," he stressed. "It's a way of robbing the taxpayer by stealth."

Minnesota a "closed shop" state, meaning, various UNION laws prevail as opposed to other states that are "open shop" states, or right-to-work.

As we sit here now, the largest union in Minnesota, the Teachers Local Union is meeting with officials from Washington to seek a "WAIVER" from complying with the ACT ---No Child Left Behind.

While the ACT has increased testing scores by as much as 100% for the poor and minorities, and largely increased scores across the board for all younger students; this EVIL money grubbing criminal enterprise, MOBESUQUE rule of teachers has fought the ACT from day one.

They perceived it as too... hard, or too onerous for teachers. To much extra work and would hold teachers, schools and districts accountable for RESULTS of MASSIVE BILLIONS of dollars being spent, supposedly to HELP Children.

THE FACT IS: 600 schools in Minnesota are failing and thus the PANDERING by the Obama Administration to the MOB UNION for support of it's rank and file is happening NOW--DFL/UNION politics in full swing to RE-ELECT Obama, not help STUDENTS, lest you be decieved.

Do not be DELUDED, Minnesota has received more and more and more money and still fails as a result of the UNIONS.

Now 300 (virtually all) some odd districts are demanding more money as 622 cites as a REASON to ask for more money. Not because it is in a basis of reality, but in a construct of ME TOO!

The extraordinarily liberal progressive Minnesota state Legislatures of the past leaded by likes of Senator Wiger and other BIG UNION controlled politicians talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.

So, 622 is SAYING..."look at us, we try so hard to make cuts and live within our means and not waste but we fail. so please give us more money, for 10 more years". It is A TAX EXTENSION, which is a manifold constructive TAX HIKE.

Only the most foolish and ignorant people will be duped into their TAX scheme.

All the Whilst, Schools are still failing.

SAY NO TO BIG UNION BOSSES
SAY NOT TO SENATOR WIGER WHO IS OWNED BY THEM
SAY NO TO THE TAX LEVY NOVEMBER 8, 2011,

The school board is bunch of manipulating disdainful people who are out of touch with reality and they want to take you for ride.

When the most recent budget was made there was no pay cuts, no benefit cuts, no health care cuts. NOT ONE DIME. In fact they are all getting a raise!!!

When times are hard, shouldn't taxpayers have a right to expect public servants to share the sacrifices being made by the citizens who pay them?

Good part time job with full time benefits:

While the national ranking of teacher salary in Minnesota has decreased from 17th to 21st from 2007 to 2009, Minnesota teacher salaries have steadily increased in sum, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Teaching salaries in Minnesota dropped from 17th in 2007, to 19th in 2008, to 21st in 2009. In 2007, Minnesota teaching salaries were at $48,263.33. Average teacher salary in Minnesota for 2008 went up to $49,725. In 2009, teaching salaries in Minnesota continued upward to $50,360.

The percentile increase of teacher salaries in Minnesota, summarized in the Minnesota teacher salary schedule below, show that average salary rose 3.03 percent from 2008 to 2009, 1.28 percent from 2007 to 2008, and 4.34 percent from 2007 to 2009. The average teacher salary in Minnesota grew from 2007 to 2008 by $1,461.67, and increased $2096.67 from 2007 to 2009 even though Minnesota dropped in ranking compared to other states during that same time period.

THEN ON TOP OF IT HOW MAY WEEKS DO THE GET OFF FOR VARIOUS MEA, CONFERENCES, HOLIDAYS, BREAKS, PAID SICK DAYS, AND ON AND ON.

Now why don't they use it to control the violence in some of those schools. NSP has been a problem for years. Good students being bullied and told they need counseling. Wow, if a teacher is hurt by a student, would they send the Teacher to counseling. No the bully would and should be arrested.

HealthPartners will give a 1% decrease in premiums for District 622 employees, If District 622 builds the clinics, So it is actually the TAXPAYERS who are paying for the clinics and the employees convenience. What's wrong with that picture?
Will they pay co-pays and if so, will it be lowered because there is only a Physicians Assistant staffed there and not a Real Doctor?
The article makes it sound really good for them, but what will they do if Health Partners DENY's any services or Medications?

While the North High school is spending a million dollars to change the GRASS carpet on the foot ball field at a tune of about a MILLION Dollars the student parking lot looks like a bad road in Baghdad (for sometime) at the same time they charge parent $130.00 a semester to park. HOW ABOUT thinking it is like a TOLL road and fix the grand canyon pot holes that are ripping cars (the parents pay for) to shreds. Patty Phillips the superintendent is an embarrassment to this district. Another STATIST POS.

Last year the state of MN gave 248 MILLION to schools and yet 1 in 5 school districts this election cycle find this is not enough, and go hat in hand for levy renewals. This is considered an entitlement and all the kids will suffer and die if they don't get it. NO, it's about swelling the ranks of largest union in MN. The teacher union is responsible for the fact that nothing is changing regarding those who graduate, let alone get into college. IN FACT, MN is the state of low expectations and encourage HS kids to go to Junior Colleges (not called that anymore) because the system is mess head to toe.
