The Sheriffs department exceeds all other law enforcement because they serve no loyalty or one mayor and election is the voice of the people.

"When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

- Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

Now an issue I have here is, If you're giving EMD instructions and your operators don't know what an (MI) is, then there is something seriously wrong with your EMD Training. What EMD protocal are you using in Ramsey County?
The person who made the statement about the MI was a call taker. Medicals are transferred based on what city the caller is in, either to Allina, the ambulance company, for prearrival and dispatch, or to the Police/Fire dispatchers for prearrival and dispatch. The call takers are not EMD trained and do not give prearrival instructions. Some of us came from other agencies and have EMD experience. I personally am an EMT, so I know what a MI is, but the person who received that call just didn't have that knowledge so they were confused. Regardless, the call had already been transferred to medics and I'm sure they were dispatched so it was just additional information at that point.

Just reading these comments has raised my blood pressure. If any of "us retirees" were considering coming back, this has cured that foolish urge. Thank God for retirement. My heart goes out to my co-workers who have as much as 20 years invested in this career and have 10 years to go...I can't imagine!
Hang in there...but recognize when it is time to leave. Most of you have been doing this job for so long that you don't remember what you were like before you had a full dose of extreme pressure over 40 hours a week. It changes who you are.

I remember Julie Sparrow as one of the best dispatchers I have ever had dispatch my calls. She could give out a man shot call in the same tone of voice as a barking dog call. It would be a pleasure to have her back as one of our working dispatchers.
Julie, I hope your enjoying your retirement.

We all pay a 911 tax for every phone we have. Where is that money going? If we take the total tax revenue from each line for the entire county, that is a lot of income. Could this be a possible reason why there is so much squabbling in the county about who gets to "run" dispatch?

No politician, no matter how saintly, honest, angelic, a "person of the people" or just a "nice guy" got into office by playing fair. I'm sure there is no altruistic reason for Fletcher to want 911 under his control. Dispatchers everywhere are a big pain in the a**. So, that leaves me wondering why the sudden interest? Couldn't he have done these "investigations" years ago when the county was first considering merging the centers? Would that not have been the ideal time to make sure things were working properly before they were implemented?

Just curious

A friend of mine has applied to work at the ECC a few times now. Over qualified. And there are some of the dispatchers that do not even live in Ramsey County. How are the supposed to know the streets? Lets hire someone who knows where to go and how to read a map. Over worked? And the rest of the Americans aren't? We all have to cover for the sick too. Quit your b*tching! Do your jobs. You all had weeks of training last year when the centers merged. Or are you looking to get more of my tax dollars? You get paid $20+ an hour already. Too much to sit on your a**es if you ask me. Stress? Never heard of it! Right! Whatever! We all have it. In homes and at jobs. WAH WAH WAH! Let Fletcher take over, hire a few good, even if over qualified people. Cut back on the O.T. you're being paid. Cut back on what I pay in taxes. I heard Washington County was hiring Dispatchers a while back. Why didn't you do there? If it's so bad here, leave!
I don't think this guy has ever answered a call for help where the caller obviously needs help yet you're unable to get an address and someone gets hurt or killed somewhere in the process. Deal with that all day long or the threat of that all day long. For most, this is simply a burnout job supported by the fact that points directly to high turnover. The lifestyle isn't good enough for the bad pay and other related conditions. You can have it.
