Police say that just before 44-year-old Patrolman Russell B. Amato shot and killed a fleeing shoplifting suspect in the Stop & Shop parking lot, he was reportedly struck by the suspect's minivan.

its a job i wouldn't want, but i'm sure glad there are some good officers in town who take their job seriously. i'm sure he did everything he could to avoid this situation.
