I was there before the meds and police and he was breathing he was badly injured I put a blanket on him, it was dark and raining but I could see the people standing in the intersection from the light west of the 900 w intersection so 1000 w I pull behind the white SUV to help keep people from hitting him again by traffic going west, when peramedics arrived I left because I had to get my teen to school as well. are children shouldn't be going to school when it is so dark and he should have had a bus pick him up not walking to school thats a long way from west high. that is so far! the driver should have seen the boy in the crosswalk even though traffics clear you still have to watch for pedestrians crossing.
I am sure the man feels real bad about hitting him but they weren't helping him talking to him nothing they moved his arms a little but they really weren't helping him I was just afraid someone else might run him over going the other way.
It is just sad that a boys life is cut short because are world is in to much of a hurry to care about what's going on around us. This boy was just going to school so he could start his life and instead has it end! The times for school need to change. Or they need to make it so there can be a parent home for there children but the world has become to expensive and everyone has to work to make it, leaven are children open to get hit on the way to school or kidnapped. When it starts to get dark schools need to start later so that there is at least light. Walking to school in the dark is scary anyway with how scary are world has become to have to also worry about being hit as well my hart goes out to the mother of the boy I can't even imagine how she is feeling my deepest  sympathies go out to her. This was an accident that should have never happened people need to pay attention slow down life is to short and hard enough with out accidents happening like this. If you would let me know who the boy was I would be very great full thanks

In spite of his untimely death, that boy was lucky to have you there after such a horrific experience and it was wonderful that you protected him from getting hit again. I, too, wish drivers would understand the importance of paying better attention at crosswalks and drive cautiously near schools and neighborhoods. I don't understand why they seem to be in such a hurry and why the statistics don't seem to encourage people to be more careful.
I think the darkness in this case was their biggest detriment and I've never understood why schools expect students to risk their lives commuting in darkness rather than choosing hours that would keep them not only safer, but better align their hours with those of working parents.
I'd love to see more education and signage regarding crosswalks and safer school hours that keep our kids out of dark, dangerous environments where such tragedies could've been avoided. Aren't our children worth such a simple fix?
I worry every day for my teenager who walks to school in darkness and comes home with stories of all the crazy drivers who nearly hit him. Suffice to say, my son now has very little respect for drivers and even watches me like a hawk when I drive him anywhere.
