I was watching this on the news last night and I was left shaking my head. There apparently is no gas shortage. The problem seems to be getting it from point A to point B when crossing state lines is involved. There are taxes and fees and permits required which generate funds that go to the states involved and after more than a week Gov Cuomo and his counterparts in neighboring states haven't been able to figure out a way through the bureauocratic red tape to get needed gasoline into the hurricane ravaged areas. Instead, he went on TV to deflect criticism of his own ineptness, and point his finger at and threaten the electric company, which truly is facing a daunting task. What has to be done by repair crews cannot possibly done with the snap of the fingers. What Cuomo has to do can. All he and the other governors have to do is be willing to possibly miss out on a few measly tax dollars. I guess it's just easier for him to do nothing and then blame others for a natural disaster. What he ought to be doing is enacting legislation requiring tree removal in proximity to all power lines in this area. This is the problem, and will continue to be as long as unyielding residents balk at any type of vegetation maintenance. They should understand by now, you can have your trees and you can have electric lines and poles, etc. They just can't occupy the same space.
